JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

DEPARTMENT: GENERAL DIRECT REPORTS: NONE

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING

SUMMARY:

This position will assist the Director of Accounting and is responsible for the analysis of financial activity, transaction processing, account reconciliation, discrepancy investigation and resolution, and financial statement/journal entry preparation for the portfolio of low income and market rate properties managed by Allterra Property Solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Assures all work performed is done in accordance with OSHA safety standards and those established by Anawim Housing.
  • Assures that all work performed meets Anawim Housing's standards for customer service, accuracy, quality and efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, vendors, clients, tenants, equity partners and the financing authority.
  • Accounts receivable: review deposits entered in the accounting software by others, prepare the deposit, and make deposits to the bank.
  • Accounts payable: manage cash position of portfolio, ensure the availability of cash per property, approve payables as needed, prepare weekly check runs, and communicate any cash deficits for funding.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for the portfolio to ensure an accurate representation of the properties' financial position - including but not limited to closing entities books on a monthly basis, posting management fees, GPR analysis, preparing journal entries, balance sheet and income statement analysis and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and finalize the intercompany reconciliation between all the properties and Allterra Property Solutions.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Director of Accounting. Lead discussions with the property management and maintenance teams during the budgeting phase. Review budget vs. actual with the same teams throughout the year.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Accounting for program tenants who reside in properties that Allterra manages.
  • Communicate with Partners/Investors about financial reporting, analysis of variances and provide cash analysis as needed.
  • Coordinate and/or assist with audit fieldwork for assigned projects.
  • Assist with process development for efficiencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Accounting Major
  • Prefer 5-7 years of not-for-profit, property management, or auditing experience
  • Must be accustomed to work being audited
  • Solid team player that is supportive of others
  • Ability to translate financial concepts to and effectively collaborate with colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
  • Possess a strong commitment to meeting deadlines. Maintain strict adherence to timelines and follow up.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge. Knowledge in property management software would be beneficial.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The work is performed in a typical office or administrative environment as well as tenant apartments and outside. The worker could be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Driving, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, lifting, reaching, talking, hearing, grasping and finger dexterity, repetitive motions.
  • Sitting approximately 50 percent of the time.
  • Standing approximately 20 percent of the time.
  • Walking approximately 20 percent of the time.
  • Driving approximately 10 percent of the time.
  • Requires the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force continuously.
  • Up to 50 pounds of force infrequently to lift or otherwise move objects.

VISION REQUIREMENTS:

The minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, and extensive reading.
