Your Job We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Koch Investment Management team in Scottsdale, AZ
Our Team Koch Investment Management (KIM) manages Koch Industries' excess capital in both liquid and private markets. We invest in all asset classes via futures, swaps, options, other derivatives, cash instruments, hedge funds, and the full spectrum of private markets. KIM seeks to optimize the risk-adjusted return of the whole portfolio, and we take a portfolio approach to managing risk.
What You Will Do - Design and develop the next iteration of the team's data management, portfolio management and risk and reporting systems to facilitate the trading of a cross asset, derivative heavy portfolio.
- Ensure that all systems supporting the research, trading and risk management process are up-to-date and accurate, including market data, position data, and risk reports.
- Working with portfolio managers to build and integrate pricing models into our portfolio and risk management systems.
- Continuous improvement of all sub-optimal processes. When you see something that could be improved, improve it.
- Provide support to Compliance for government reporting.
- Assuming responsibility for 100% compliance with the laws, regulations, company policy, and industry standards applicable to this role.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- Proficiency in programming Python in the development of robust, reliable, and adaptable systems.
- Proficiency in SQL and database design (i.e., ability to write database queries and knowledge of database design principles.).
- Proficiency with version management systems like Git and CI/CD Tools.
- 5+ years of software development experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- A passion and pride for elegant engineering solutions.
- An entrepreneurial mentality, willingness, and ability to solve problems, not just point them out.
- An interest in financial markets and portfolio management.
A successful candidate will have the following attributes: - Strong programming skills (Python, R and SQL) and experience with the full stack of development tools including Git, IDEs, AWS, Docker, Terraform CI/CD, Sphinx, etc.
- A team leader, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
- Scientific-method approach to problem-solving.
- Interest/experience in building systems for financial markets (stocks, bonds, commodities, credit, options, and other derivatives).
- High motivation/intellectual curiosity.
What Will Put You Ahead - Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- Strong analytical and quantitative/statistical skills, critical thinking capacity, academic or external research synthesis, and ability to translate into actionable insights.
- Understanding of financial markets, trading systems, and portfolio management concepts.
- Familiarity with market data feeds and financial APIs.
- An understanding of the attributes of derivatives (as it related to systems development).
- Experience in developing and maintaining data feeds, portfolio management and risk management systems.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
