Pay rate: $50-$57 / hour

Overview and Responsibilities
The Senior Scientist, Microbiology is responsible for providing technical expertise and performing highly complex laboratory testing for a range of bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens. The Senior Scientist will write SOPs, revise, and implement procedures, and evaluate new diagnostic test procedures as necessary. This candidate will drive significant impact to building the microbiology core infrastructure and have exposure to molecular assay development. This position is part of the Research Development department and will be in Sunnyvale, California.
- Work independently to design, plan, implement, and utilize advanced equipment, complex methods, and sophisticated software to detect, isolate, and identify microbial pathogens in a variety of clinical specimens.
- Implement corrective actions, SOP revisions, creation, and maintenance of protocols, and reports in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures.
Qualifications
- Masters degree or higher in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Virology, Microbiology, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience in microbiology and molecular biology laboratory work in hospital, academic, or industry job including experience in handling and identifying bacterial species.
- Perform microbiological techniques, including culture, microscopy, and staining.
Preferred
- Experience working as a Virology subject matter expert is a plus.
- Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute procedures and practices.
- Affinity towards instrumentation, automation, robotics, or prototype equipment.
