Robert Half is partnering with a growing non- operating O&G company in Greeley, CO. This company specializes in the acquisition of oil and gas leases and the development, production, and sale of oil and natural gas. They are looking to add a Senior Revenue Accountant to their teaM.
Position Overview:
This role will focus on the accurate recording, analysis, and reporting of revenue from our non-operated interests. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with operated and non-operated revenue, possess strong analytical and communication skills, and be well-versed in industry software and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Revenue Accounting & Analysis:
- Review and process monthly operated revenue statements from third-party operators.
- Record revenue entries and allocations accurately in the accounting system (e.g., Excalibur, OGSys, or similar).
- Reconcile revenue and royalty data with internal expectations and ownership records.
- Analyze revenue variances, investigate discrepancies, and work with operators to resolve issues.
- Ensure revenue recognition is in compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards.
Non-Operated Interest Management:
- Monitor and track revenue streams from a diverse portfolio of non-operated assets.
- Maintain and validate division of interest (DOI) records.
- Support joint interest billing (JIB) reviews and collaborate with the land and legal teams for ownership updates.
- Liaise with operators to understand production changes and how they impact revenue.
Financial Reporting Support:
- Assist in preparing revenue-related schedules for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Support external audit and tax reporting by providing necessary revenue documentation and analysis.
- Help maintain SOX compliance and contribute to internal controls over revenue processes.
Data Management & System Efficiency:
- Maintain accurate and organized revenue files and supporting documentation.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the accounting and revenue functions.
- Utilize Excel and accounting software to streamline reconciliation and reporting tasks.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Technical & Industry Knowledge:
- Solid understanding of revenue accounting in the upstream oil & gas industry, particularly non-operated assets.
- Experience with industry software such as Excalibur, OGSys, WolfePak, or similar.
- Knowledge of division orders, royalties, and production allocation methods.
- Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and complex formulas.
Analytical & Communication Skills:
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret revenue data and explain variances to stakeholders.
- Clear, professional communication skills for working with external operators and internal departments.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4-6 years of oil and gas revenue accounting experience, with a preference for non-operated asset exposure.
