Your Opportunity:
This is a full-time, in-person position reporting to the President of Operations. As the Lead QA Engineer, you will oversee quality assurance efforts across mobile and backend systems, similar to those in modern banking applications. This hands-on leadership role combines strategic oversight with technical execution. You'll guide test planning, lead decisions on manual and automated testing, ensure reproducibility, communicate risks, and drive process improvements. You'll also mentor QA team members and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to uphold the highest product quality standards while continuously optimizing QA workflows.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of QA Engineers (manual and automation).
- Define and execute QA strategies, test plans, and processes across mobile and backend systems.
- Own and evolve automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Appium) for regression, performance, and integration testing.
- Design and execute tests covering functional, regression, UI, localization, and acceptance testing.
- Validate end-to-end user flows, including payment transactions and localization.
- Coordinate release readiness, triage bugs, escalate blockers, and maintain traceable issue logs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, developers (iOS, Android, backend), and designers (via Figma) to clarify scope, edge cases, and ensure UX and visual consistency.
- Introduce shift-left testing practices and implement CI/CD quality gates.
- Champion a test-driven culture and promote quality across the organization.
- Monitor and analyze defect trends to drive continuous improvement.
- Identify automation opportunities and lead tool selection and framework implementation.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and security regulations (e.g., PCI DSS, ISO, GDPR).
- Support a sprint-based environment while maintaining transparency with stakeholders.
Skill and Abilities:
- Extensive experience in both manual and automated testing using tools like Cypress, Selenium, Playwright, and Appium.
- Proficient in scripting languages (JavaScript, Python, Java) and native mobile testing frameworks (XCTest, Espresso).
- Strong knowledge of API testing tools such as Postman, Swagger, and REST-assured.
- Skilled in building and integrating test automation within CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
- Understanding of performance, security, and reliability testing; cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure); and container tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Proven ability to lead QA teams, set goals, and mentor team members.
- Expertise in building scalable QA strategies and processes for distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of agile, DevOps, and shift-left testing practices.
- Familiar with compliance and security standards (PCI DSS, GDPR, ISO), and experience in fintech or regulated environments is a plus.
- Strong collaboration skills across engineering, product, and design teams.
- Comfortable documenting test plans, strategies, and metrics, and managing testing across sprint cycles using tools like JIRA.
- Experienced in localization, payment flows, and third-party integrations.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and accountability.
- Thrives in fast-paced, agile startup environments with a strong sense of ownership.
Job Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in QA, including mobile (iOS/Android) and backend systems.
- 2+ years in a QA lead or managerial role is a plus.
- Proven experience with automation tools/frameworks (e.g., Cypress, Selenium, Playwright).
- Skilled in API testing (Postman, REST-assured), localization testing, and payment flows.
- Strong understanding of agile methodologies, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
- Proficient with tools like JIRA, TestRail, Allure, Firebase, Apple Connect, Google Analytics, AppsFlyer, Heap, AWS, and Salesforce.
- Familiar with native mobile architecture and languages like Swift, Kotlin, or Python.
- Able to document reproducible test cases and define release criteria.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field-or equivalent experience.
- QA certifications (e.g., ISTQB) or cloud/test automation certifications are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, with knowledge of LATAM localization.
- Experience in FinTech, banking systems, or highly regulated environments.
- Familiar with security, performance, and reliability testing.
- Understanding of banking logic, core banking systems, or payment gateways.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
