Job Brief:
Our Product Managers work on our Product Development Team and collaborate with business stakeholders to help Courthouse News Service continuously improve and optimize our portfolio of internal and customer-facing legal news products.

Success in the role requires a commitment to learning and knowing how our technology works to create a superior offering for our customers; understanding the competitive landscape and evolving trends in the legal technology space; effective communication and collaboration with our software engineers, tech leads, subscriber support specialists, and business stakeholders; and solid comprehension of modern product development principles. Achieving this will drive increased product usage, higher user satisfaction, and improved process compliance, aligning with our core success metrics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with subscribers, end users, and internal stakeholders to garner feedback and understand their evolving business needs.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the product portfolio, including mobile apps and API.
  • Work with engineers to communicate product requirements, make trade-offs, and actively contribute to the entire product implementation and testing process.
  • Speak to, as well as influence, engineers, project managers, sales counterparts, corporate leadership, service partners, and subscribers on product prioritization and desired outcomes.
  • Drive product development by writing feature briefs, epics, and user stories, maintaining a well-prioritized backlog, and actively participating in sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog review sessions to ensure continuous product improvement.
  • Own and manage the performance and measurement of our products.
  • Create and maintain product documentation to drive user adoption, enhance troubleshooting, and ensure internal teams and subscribers have access to accurate, up-to-date information.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance testing, troubleshoot product issues by reproducing errors, and effectively report malfunctions with detailed analysis and testing scenarios.
  • Facilitate onboarding by educating end users and internal teams on product features, while supporting the subscriber support team in addressing product-related questions and resolving reported issues.
  • Conduct regular market research and share key insights.
  • Mentor and coach other members of the Product Development Team.

Qualifications:

  • Proven success at serving for at least 1 year as a Senior Product Manager and achieving the designation of 'product expert' for 1 or more products in a larger portfolio.
  • Worked effectively with hybrid teams across multiple time zones.
  • Proven track record of delivering and tracking features for web & mobile apps as well as formal APIs for both external and internal users.
  • Ability to see all tasks through to completion, consistently, with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • A growth mindset driven by curiosity and a desire to continuously learn.
  • Empathy for users and team members, fostering thoughtful communication and problem-resolution.
  • Proven ability to make informed decisions and solve complex problems in a highly distributed environment.

Preferred Skills/Expertise:

  • Jira or comparable agile software development/project management software.
  • Confluence, Miro (or similar) for product-related documentation.
  • Tools for API design, testing, and monitoring, eg, Swagger (OpenAPI), Postman, Apigee, and API Gateway.
  • Transactional email services, eg, SendGrid, Postmark, Mailgun, Amazon SES.
  • Qualitative analytics software, eg, FullStory, Datadog, Heap, GA, Amplitude.
  • Help desk software, eg, GrooveHQ, Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom, Help Scout.
  • Office document suites, eg Microsoft Office, Google Workspace.

Please note this is not a remote or hybrid position. Candidates are expected to work out of our Pasadena, California offices 3-5 days per week.
