Job Description - Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer

Job title: Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer

Location: Coventry. This is an onsite position.

What you'll be doing:

In this role, you will join a newly formed Mechanical Engineering team within a new office based in Coventry. The team aims to deliver crucial ship services, crew life support capabilities, and equipment for the current and next generation of Nuclear Submarines. You will support the design and development of critical systems for the SSN AUKUS.

  • Lead and develop mechanical engineering systems, equipment, and components.
  • Build relationships with suppliers to ensure equipment and component specifications meet demanding requirements.
  • Collaborate with the customer to develop requirements and acceptance criteria based on operational scenarios and design considerations.
  • Perform and review engineering calculations and analyses to assess system performance.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to solve complex engineering problems and make informed decisions.

Your skills and experiences:

  • Background in Mechanical Engineering, with experience in Rotator Machinery, Components, or Fluid Dynamics.
  • Experience applying mechanical engineering principles across product lifecycle stages.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work effectively within a cross-functional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience with complex engineering calculations.
  • Degree in Engineering, Mechanical, or Science subjects.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience.

The Platform Systems team:

As a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer in our Platform Systems team, you'll join a new team at our Coventry site, working with passionate engineers to innovate submarine design. This role offers opportunities to develop and mentor junior staff and enhance technical skills. Relocation support is available for eligible candidates.
