Responsibilities This is a REMOTE opportunity within the United States and Canada TRC Companies, Inc., a pioneer in groundbreaking scientific and engineering developments since the 1960's, is a national engineering and environmental consulting firm that provides integrated services to the energy, environmental and infrastructure markets. TRC serves a broad range of clients in industry and government, implementing complex projects from initial concept to delivery and operation.
Under general supervision this position performs a substantive role in power system analysis and study work. You must be competent to operate various power system software tools required for performing power system studies. You must also be capable of manipulating power system databases and establishing base cases for production cost modeling. Ability to develop models to conduct load flow and dynamic stability studies is desired but not required. Must also possess an understanding of power system calculation methodologies, terminologies, and techniques.
- Perform electric market simulations and demonstrate a good working knowledge of generating operating units, transmission grid topology, potential constraints, and market system operations supporting economic transmission planning including but not limited to:
- Price forecasting
- Transmission and congestion evaluation
- Economic transmission analysis
- Renewable energy valuation
- Power market analysis
Ability to operate Electric Market Analysis software tools required for simulating electric market design, assessment, and analysis such as: - Implications of power market rules
- Trading mechanisms
- Electric tariffs and ancillary services structures
- Power market design and analysis
- Rules for dispatch and system operation
- Opportunities for electricity balancing and ancillary services
- Facilitation of renewable energy integration
- Strategic planning and investment decisions
- Quantitative electricity market segment analysis
- Analysis of electricity and network tariff structures
- Functioning of the global power market and best practices
Proficiency with PROMOD and GE Maps software Develop the power system model database within the scope of work using modeling software. Prepare written reports which explain the purpose, methodology, data requirements, recommendations, and observations of power system studies. Ability to analyze results and develop alternatives to identified problems. Perform calculations, analysis, and evaluations as per project requirements. Participates actively in client development and maintenance. Keep supervision informed of status of all projects relative to pre-established expectations. Job folders should be up-to-date and contain all pertinent correspondence, equipment drawings, design drawings, on-site collected data, data sheets, etc. Project documents and system models and other pertinent project data must be properly backed up to network and other external storage media as prescribed by current Group guidelines. Stay informed of Department and Company news by attending meetings (in person or via conference call) for the Power System Studies Group and Company. Willingness to Mentor other engineers Ability to deal with ambiguity Ability to work independently and with others while maintaining a high level of initiative and self-motivation. Communicate with the appropriate Company employees any information concerning a client which is deemed informative or helpful in further developing the relationship between the Company and the client. Remote Opportunity with preferred market locations in Raleigh, NC, Lakewood, CO, and Austin, TX.Qualifications This is a REMOTE opportunity within the United States and Canada - Possess a four-year Bachelor of Science or Technology degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent amount of experience in the electrical engineering.
- Experience with Power Market analysis.
- 15+ years proven job related experience in Production Cost Modelling using either PROMOD or GE Maps software.
- Expertise in Economic Analysis with strong understanding in utilizing hourly load forecasts, weather profiles, generating resources, fuel flows and price, for running multiple cases in parallel.
- Strong understanding of transmission systems, reliability requirements, and operating reserves.
- Transmission Planning Studies including TRV, TOV, Load Flow, Feasibility, Reliability and Operational, Generator Interconnection and Support, NERC TPL and MOD Compliance, and ISO/RTO System Addition Compliance desired but not required.
- Job related experience in either Electric Transmission or Distribution Modelling using software such as PSCAD, EMPTRV, PSSE, PSLF, MUST, TARA, SKM, ASPEN, CYME, Synergi, or Milsoft WindMil is desired, but not required.
- Experience in Marketing Services desired but not required.
- Professional Engineers License is preferred, or ability to obtain with 2 years of employment.
- Must demonstrate technical capabilities to effectively perform the job duties and responsibilities.
- The ability and willingness to travel approximately 10-20% of time is required.
- The ability to perform field data collection activities, as needed, is required.
