POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Qualified by education and training to provide, under the direction and supervision of a licensed, Board certified pathologist, appropriate Anatomic Pathology services. Oversees the technical support in the Histology laboratory, Gross Room, the Autopsy Service and oversees the Pathologist Assistants. Provides technical oversight to the Surgical Pathology grossing room Histology laboratory and Autopsy Service, maintains equipment and safety regulations in the grossing room Histology laboratory and Autopsy Service, performs gross descriptions of submitted Surgical Pathology specimens, and provides technical support for the Autopsy Service. Also oversees the training of the Pathologists Assistants, grossing assistants and ensures they follow policies and procedures. Trains incoming residents on the proper and safe use of the cryostats and bone saws. Oversees the daily operations of the Histology laboratory. Makes hiring/termination recommendations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Undergraduate education and certification as a Pathologist Assistant is required. Must be familiar with Texas Administrative Code of Criminal Procedure regarding performance of specimen grossing and autopsies, and with requirements for valid permission for autopsy by decedent's family. Preference is given to applicants with experience in a diagnostic laboratory setting, as well as those with managerial and/or supervisory experience. Experience with a clinical information system or similar application is also preferred.
