Promet Optics is a growing high-tech company based in Shoreview, Minnesota that specializes in the development and production of precision optical systems. We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented individual to support our technical team in producing optical assemblies used for critical industrial, military and life science applications.



About the Role


A Senior Optical Engineering Technician is responsible for critical tasks related to the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of optical and optomechanical components, systems, and products. The candidate must be able to apply best practices in manufacturing methods, quality assurance principles, and precision optical technology assembly techniques. The candidate will support engineering in product development, prototyping, production, and testing service operations. The candidate must be mechanically oriented and committed to maintaining the highest quality standards.



Responsibilities


  • Work with the engineering staff on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of precision optomechanical instrument prototypes and subassemblies.
  • Have primary responsibility for completing assigned production project work, following manufacturing procedures, and meeting requirements for contract manufacturing projects.
  • Develop assembly, testing, and inspection procedures to maximize product quality and process efficiency.
  • Develop fixturing for testing and alignment procedures.
  • Utilize precision optical technology assembly techniques.
  • Apply best practices in manufacturing methods.
  • Implement and follow quality assurance principles.
  • Maintaining the highest quality standards.


Qualifications


  • 5+ years (10+ preferred) of experience in production or assembly of precision mechanical or optomechanical instruments.
  • Preference will be given to candidates experienced in working with optical technology or with a relevant degree in optical technology.


Required Skills


  • Assembling complex, high-precision instruments utilizing optical alignment techniques.
  • Using optical testing equipment such as centering machines, autocollimators, and interferometers.
  • Using precision hand tools and measuring equipment such as calipers and drop indicators.
  • Handling, cleaning, bonding, and working with optical components such as lenses and prisms.
  • Reading mechanical prints and specifications.
  • Understanding quality control (QC) principles and procedures in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in using database, spreadsheet and word processing programs to collect data and document processes.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Complete assignments and tasks on time.
  • Working responsibly and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Following laboratory safety rules and regulations.
  • Working cooperatively with others in a small technical team environment.


Preferred Skills


  • Using machining tools such as milling machine and lathe to modify and fabricate mechanical components.
  • Using metrology equipment such as microscopes and CMM machines.
  • Proficiency in working with electronic and ESD sensitive materials.


Pay range and compensation package


  • Competitive compensation will be determined based on experience ($30-$45+/hr)
