The Information Technology Services department has an opening for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to support the Enterprise Network Support team. In this role you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the City's network infrastructure. As a key member of the network operations team, you will provide hands-on expertise and support in the management of Cisco Catalyst routers and switches, ensuring the network's reliability, performance, and security. This role requires both strategic thinking and technical expertise to address complex network challenges and optimize the network architecture.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid in-office/telework schedule which will be up to two days a week remote and three days onsite. Telework is subject to department approval and could change in the future.

Responsibilities include:
  • Design, implement, and manage Cisco Catalyst-based network infrastructure, including routers, switches and wireless access points.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, ensuring high availability and performance of the network.
  • Perform network configurations, upgrades, and patch management on Cisco Catalyst devices.
  • Monitor network performance and conduct routine network health checks to identify and mitigate issues proactively.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network engineers and other team members.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network-related projects, including deployment of new services and technologies.
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance analysis, and assist in the development of network scalability strategies.
  • Work with network monitoring tools to track and analyze network traffic and performance metrics.
  • Ensure network security best practices are followed and recommend enhancements to safeguard the network from vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on network architecture, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation as needed.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, VLANs, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, STP, and VTP.
  • Strong knowledge of Wireshark or other packet capture tools.
  • Expertise in routing and switching protocols, including VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, and link aggregation.
  • Skilled in wireless networking and configuration (Cisco wireless controllers, access points).
  • Ability to analyze complex network issues and provide efficient solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
SALARY

Pay Range: $93,121.60 to $131,040.00/annually.

Hiring Range: $93,121.60 to $118,872.00/annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years of experience as an Information Technology Systems Specialist involving database management and on-line telecommunications.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • This position is subject to Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background standards. Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate suitability for the job.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Five years of experience in supporting Cisco switches, routers and Wi-Fi equipment.
  • Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Catalyst Center) for network operations.
  • Experience with software defined networking solutions.
  • Experience with SolarWinds or Splunk for monitoring Cisco networking equipment.
  • Experience supporting Cisco MPLS architecture in a large enterprise.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or higher certification in active standing.
