Senior Network Engineer

Berkeley Research Group provides independent advice, data analytics, authoritative studies, expert testimony, investigations, and regulatory and dispute consulting to Fortune 500 corporations, financial institutions, government agencies, major law firms, and regulatory bodies around the world. We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our Global IT team, ideally based in London, but Brussels or Rome are also options. The team manages multiple sites and networks, requiring a candidate with strong technical skills and experience working across a multi-site organization.

The role involves designing, implementing, securing, maintaining, and optimizing BRG's LAN/WAN/WLAN networks. Responsibilities include managing Datacenter and Office MDF rooms, overseeing third-party NOC relationships, and handling Business Continuity Planning and IT Disaster Recovery (BCP/DR).

An emphasis on perimeter network security configuration is essential, applying to datacenter, branch office, and cloud networks to ensure security through a Zero Trust approach. The role requires building and managing an agile network topology adaptable to growth and evolving business needs, ensuring stable, efficient, and secure access to resources worldwide. Collaboration with Cloud and Infrastructure teams on large-scale projects is critical.

Key Contacts:
  • Interface with the Senior Network Engineering Manager to ensure progress towards roadmap goals and compliance with security policies.
  • Work closely with Cloud, Infrastructure, and Operations teams to integrate cloud and on-prem environments securely.
  • Coordinate with IT Risk and Compliance teams on Incident Response, Disaster Recovery, and audit standards.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Develop architectural and engineering designs for large-scale datacenter network infrastructure.
  • Manage entire project lifecycles from design to support.
  • Improve network performance and reliability.
  • Work with Cloud and Infrastructure teams to optimize VM and storage connectivity.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot network devices including switches, firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN appliances, and security tools.
  • Manage on-prem and Colo Datacenter aspects, including design, power, and circuits.
  • Oversee communication circuits and manage ISP relationships worldwide.
  • Troubleshoot system and network malfunctions.
  • Support Palo Alto firewalls and GlobalProtect VPN.
  • Stay informed about new technologies and evaluate their applicability.
  • Collect and present security metrics and dashboards.
  • Participate in annual risk assessments.
Experience:
  • 10+ years in Network Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN, BGP, Cisco Catalyst/Nexus, Meraki.
  • 3+ years supporting SD-WAN, Meraki MX, VeloCloud.
  • Understanding of SASE architecture, Meraki MX, Cisco Umbrella, ZTNA, CASB, FWaaS.
  • Experience with hybrid security and infrastructure platforms, especially in Azure.
  • Design and support network architectures for Azure cloud systems.
  • Hands-on with Palo Alto firewalls, VPNs, and security management platforms.
  • Experience with SOC/NOC support vendors.
  • Knowledge of authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, Kerberos, MFA).
  • Wireless standards experience, including 802.11x, Cisco, Meraki, and Microsoft NPS.
  • Familiarity with protocols like RSTP, VLANs, IPv4/IPv6, IPSEC, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, TACACS.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and desktop environments.
  • Understanding of industry standards like SOC2, ISO27002, HIPAA, HITRUST.
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex topics clearly.
  • Ability to identify improvements beyond current constraints.
  • Experience in multi-site environments is advantageous.
