Position Summary: We are seeking a seasoned and highly skilled
Senior Microsoft 365 (O365) Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise collaboration services across a network of 70 hospitals. This role is responsible for architecting, managing, and securing the Microsoft 365 environment, ensuring scalability, compliance, and best-in-class user experience.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise across the M365 suite-Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Intune-and a proven track record supporting large, distributed enterprise environments, ideally in healthcare or other regulated industries.
Key Responsibilities:Architecture & Strategy - Led the design and implementation of Microsoft 365 services including tenant configuration, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Intune, and Azure AD.
- Define and enforce governance, security, compliance, and lifecycle policies across the M365 ecosystem.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in migrations, integrations, and hybrid scenarios involving legacy environments.
Operations & Support - Provide Tier 3 support for escalated issues related to M365 services.
- Monitor and optimize performance, availability, and storage across Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Maintain and enhance automation scripts for routine tasks and service administration (PowerShell, Graph API).
Security & Compliance - Implement and manage data protection strategies including DLP, sensitivity labels, retention policies, and audit logging.
- Support MFA, Conditional Access, and secure mobile access via Intune and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
- Assist with regulatory compliance initiatives including HIPAA, HITRUST, and internal audit requirements.
Collaboration & Mentorship - Mentor junior O365 engineers and support staff, driving best practices and technical training.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, identity, security, and service desk teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including runbooks, diagrams, and knowledge base content.
Requirements
Required Qualifications: - 5+ years of experience in Microsoft 365 engineering roles in a large enterprise environment.
- Expertise in Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Azure AD, and Intune.
- Strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting and Microsoft 365 administrative tools.
- Experience in hybrid environments with Azure AD Connect and Exchange Hybrid setups.
- Deep understanding of M365 security, compliance, and governance capabilities.
- Familiarity with ITSM systems (e.g., ServiceNow) and change control practices.
- Must be U.S.-based and authorized to work without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: - Certifications:
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert (MS-100 / MS-101)
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator, Teams Admin, or Security Administrator
- ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management
- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Additional Experience:
- Healthcare IT experience or knowledge of HIPAA compliance.
- Experience with multi-tenant environments or large-scale mergers/migrations.
Work Environment: - Remote role with preferred proximity to San Antonio, TX for occasional collaboration or client-facing sessions.
- This may include participation in after-hours maintenance windows or on-call rotations for critical incident support.
