Senior Mechanical Engineer - Test Systems

Location: Torrance, CA (Hybrid - Minimum 3 days onsite per week)

Work Arrangement: 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off)


About the Role

A pioneering defense and aerospace company is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer specializing in test systems to lead the design and development of cutting-edge testing solutions for advanced flight control systems. This pivotal role combines technical expertise with leadership, driving innovation in testing solutions that ensure the safety and reliability of military aircraft systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Project Oversight: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to assign projects, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of test systems.
  • Optimize Operations: Develop and fine-tune engineering workflows to boost productivity, ensure regulatory adherence, and elevate quality benchmarks
  • Performance Management: Conduct evaluations, support professional development, and participate in recruitment efforts to build a high-performing team.
  • Technical Contribution: Dedicate 50-75% of time to hands-on engineering tasks, including:
  • Create custom mechanical and hydraulic testing solutions tailored to precise specifications.
  • Performing structural analyses and machine design.
  • Applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Utilizing CAD tools (preferably NX) and PLM systems (such as Teamcenter)

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Minimum of 6 years of mechanical engineering experience, with a strong foundation in design and analysis.
  • Proven experience in developing engineering drawings, schematics, and technical reports.
  • Proven track record of leading teams in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Authorized to work with U.S. export-controlled information

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in engineering.
  • Experience in the aerospace or defense manufacturing industry.
  • Familiarity with closed-loop control systems, requirements management, and modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, AMESIM, and Ansys.
  • Excellent people skills to motivate teams and foster cross-functional collaboration.
