You will be responsible for the Group financials under US GAAP for Barinthus Biotherapeutics plc. You will report to the VP of Finance. You will be responsible for preparation of the consolidated financial information for management purposes as well as the quarterly corporate content and review of financial information included in our quarterly and annual SEC filing reporting requirements.

You will have line management responsibilities for 1 direct report, being the Financial Reporting Manager, requiring coaching and performance management of this individual. You will work closely with your peers, being the US Financial Controller and UK Financial Controller, to support on any technical or Group accounting matters and perform reviews over the local country numbers ahead of consolidating

You will also work with the broader finance team on the operation of our financial processes/systems to support the business, including the CFO, on projects including transfer pricing.

In addition, you will oversee the maintenance of ShareWorks, our equity administration platform, and be responsible for the appropriate accounting of share-based payments across the Group.

The key tasks of the role are:

  • Responsible for the preparation of the Group consolidation and cash flow under US GAAP on a monthly/quarterly basis as needed
  • Responsible for assessing technical accounting matters and producing accounting memos where appropriate, supported by the Financial Reporting Manager
  • Responsible for the preparation of the financial statements for the purpose of the quarterly and annual filings with the SEC, supported by the Financial Reporting Manager
  • Maintenance of share-based payments grants/exercises in Shareworks, and appropriate accounting thereof (including modifications)
  • Lead the Group's external audit process
  • Perform review and analytical activities as part of the monthly close
  • Overall responsibility for Group tax compliance, accounting and disclosures in conjunction with the local financial controllers and supported by our external tax advisors
  • Responsible for working with senior stakeholders to co-ordinate the preparation of corporate content, such as directors compensation, for the purpose of our SEC filings
  • Ensuring the operation and effectiveness of financial processes in accordance with SOX 404a, including continual evolution and improvement of processes and associated controls
  • Providing technical accounting advice and coaching to the finance team and throughout the business
  • Management of external consultants
  • Ad-hoc projects

Experience and education required

The successful candidate will be either a qualified CPA, a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA/ACCA), or equivalent with over five years experience working in a finance or business role at the Big 4 or a biotech/pharmaceutical/life science business. This role would be a great first step out of practice for individuals working in public accounting firm who are looking for their first role out in industry and have an interest/client base in life sciences.

We are looking for someone with the ability to build positive peer relationships and the ability to operate successfully in a range of environments, with the appetite to be hands on in an entrepreneurial environment and the credibility to build strong relationships at the most senior level. You will positively contribute to team spirit and build working relationships across the whole business.

A knowledge of and passion for the biotech industry are essential. You will have detailed working knowledge and experience of US GAAP. You will also possess a sound working knowledge of technical accounting and external reporting matters, including prior experience of group consolidation, financial close activities and SEC disclosure requirements. You will have knowledge of tax accounting and compliance matters. You will have good excel capabilities and competent with ERP system reporting processes. Knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS are desirable.
