Job Summary
The Senior Manager - Excise and Motor Fuel Tax is responsible for leading and assisting the staff through the execution of strategic direction, management and oversight of operations relating to fuel taxes, while ensuring timely and accurate completion of motor fuel tax compliance. The Senior Manager - Excise and Motor Fuel Tax seeks to develop and implement innovative automation, drive process improvement opportunities, and develop policies related to motor fuel taxes. This individual leads the fuel tax team to integrate with all Atlas Oil fuel related operations. The individual manages vendor relationships to ensure the performance standards in agreements are met or exceeded, in addition to having accountability for execution and measure of success.

Primary Responsibilities
- Manage and prioritize the preparation of motor fuel and sales/use monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns.
- Lead and manage federal, state, and local motor fuel and sales tax audits. Identify and communicate tax advice, feedback, and solutions with key stakeholders.
- Develop month-end general ledger tax reconciliation best practices making certain tax payments are posted and accurate.
- Develop working process to ensure motor fuel and sales/use tax rates are maintained and updated.
- Develop working process ensuring company and customer's motor fuel and sales/use licenses and certificates are maintained and updated.
- Manage relationships with external firms assisting with motor fuel and sales/use tax.
- Partner closely with leadership to establish and execute strategies to enhance tax processes and procedures.
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor's and Master's degree (preferred) in accounting.
- CPA licensed or CMI certified.
- 5+ years of direct motor fuel tax experience in above and below the rack transactions.
- 2+ years' experience in leading a team and execution of strategic initiatives.
- Strong mentoring and staff development skills are required.
- Direct experience in performing fuel tax audits, establishing operational processes, establishing working relationships with external stakeholders.
- ETRM / ERP system implementation experience a plus.
- Wholesale and supply/marketing experience a plus.
