Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Legal Assistant to directly support a highly experienced trial attorney with a broad and dynamic litigation practice. This attorney handles a wide spectrum of complex legal matters, often simultaneously, so the ideal candidate must be proactive, organized, and comfortable managing a fast-moving caseload.
Most applicable litigation experience:
- Business and commercial litigation
- Professional liability
- Construction defect cases
- Lien disputes and bond issues
- Will contests and fiduciary breach claims
- Personal and commercial collections
- Insurance claims (personal and commercial)
- Professional malpractice across various industries
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day legal and administrative support to the attorney across all phases of litigation
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, motions, correspondence, and trial materials
- Organize and maintain case files, evidence, and exhibits?both digital and physical
- Track deadlines, court dates, and manage the attorney?s calendar
- File documents with courts in compliance with local, state, and federal rules
- Schedule and coordinate depositions, meetings, hearings, and trial preparation
- Assist with discovery requests and document management, including summarizing depositions and organizing exhibits
- Communicate professionally with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and court staff
- Support trial preparation including creating trial binders and coordinating logistics
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant supporting commercial litigation or trial attorneys
- Strong knowledge of litigation procedures and legal terminology
- Proficient with legal document preparation and e-filing systems
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
- Comfortable working under deadlines and shifting priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting a high-volume, multi-disciplinary litigation practice
- Trial preparation experience highly valued
- Familiarity with legal software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, Westlaw, or similar)
