POSITION: Senior Launch Expert / Senior Space Segment Engineer LOCATION: El Segundo, CA REQUIRED SECURITY CLEARANCE: Active TS with SCI eligibility POSITION TYPE/STANDARD WORK HOURS: Full time, 40 hours THE OPPORTUNITY: Upon award, BTAS will be filling potential openings for the Space Systems Command (SSC). SSC plays a critical role in advancing the United States's space capabilities, delivering cutting-edge solutions to protect and enhance national security. SSC/SZBC specializes in highly classified Space Domain Awareness (SDA) systems, Defensive and Offensive Space Control (DSC/OSC) capabilities, and space test range assets to support the Department of Defense's (DoD) current and future operational needs. As a leader in space technology, SSC/SZ-BC is responsible for the development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment of mission-critical systems spanning the entire acquisition life cycle. These efforts ensure the United States Space Force (USSF) and its mission partners maintain a strategic advantage in space operations. This position will support multiple SSC/SZ-BC programs, as well as other initiatives across the Space Force, Air Force, and allied organizations. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide space acquisitions, engineering, operations, and technical advice for all project stages to support the acquisition life cycle. Support program acquisition for advanced technology, concept development, and integration. Advise on cost, schedule, and performance. Revise or draft Joint Capabilities Integrated Development System (JCIDS) and acquisition documentation for government program managers. Support presentations to stakeholders. Documentation includes Initial Capability Documents, Interface Control Documents, Capability Development/Production/Requirements Documents, Milestone documentation, Acquisition Strategies, Analysis of Alternatives, Concept of Operations, Memorandums of Agreement/Understanding, Technical/Systems Requirement Documents, Defense Acquisition Board documentation, Technical Evaluations, System Specifications, training material, briefings, white papers, reports, and analysis results. Provide draft SME-level technical and/or programmatic status reports of programs or portfolios as requested by the government. Identify improvement areas in acquisition processes. Provide actionable recommendations and execute tasks to reduce risks. Assist in building and maintaining a government risk program. Maintain awareness of current program schedules, monitor acquisition implementation, report requirement shortfalls, and provide program assessments based on identified risks. Advise on technical engagements such as technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and program conferences. Maintain broad awareness of technology development efforts. Assist integrated product teams and establish customer and contractor interfaces. Provide technical and operational insight for mission protection and data assessments. Recommend solutions for technical issues. Develop and evaluate impact analysis, audits, studies, compliance inspections, and readiness reviews. Advise on test and operations. Provide support on test documents, planning, events, requirements, and data for Developmental and Operational Testing. Coordinate systemlevel test integration. Provide analytical and operational engineering support to developmental and operational units. Support mission planning and anomaly engineering. Support data and signal collection, processing, storage, archiving, analysis, and lessons learned for tests and operations. Assist with post-mission analysis and reporting. Advise on conceptual launch vehicle comparisons and selection. Interface with the Assured Access to Space (SSC/AA) Program Executive Office. Assist with new requirement definitions and recommend changes to existing mission requirements. Facilitate communication between SSC/AA and other government space vehicle procurement agencies. Maintain insight into launch activities to ensure mission requirements are met. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MA/MS degree is required. Individual must be a SME Recognized Industry Leader. Must be an expert in classified weapon system launch planning, processing, and execution. Must be highly knowledgeable in the processes and products required to successfully design and test a space system to ensure a successful launch vehicle integration. Must be highly knowledgeable in the launch vehicle development and design process, schedule, and key agencies. Must be an expert in space vehicle engineering, design, integration, and test. BA/BS degree is acceptable if the candidate possesses at least 12 years of experience in this type of position or program. The Materiel Leader may also waive the MA/MS requirement. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not supervise the work of others. WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to operate a computer and other standard office equipment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, 80%. TRAVEL: Little if any travel is required. This is a Full-Time, Salary, Exempt position.
