Senior Imaging Science Engineer

In This Role, You Will:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Imaging Science Engineer, responsible for driving the design, testing and analysis of endoscope camera and illumination systems. The ideal candidate will lead the optical design and quantitative evaluation of endoscope image and video quality for end-to-end systems and sub-systems. This individual will be a key member of a multidisciplinary engineering team to support existing product lines while driving the development of next-generation technologies. The role also requires ensuring that all engineering efforts comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements, while aligning with strategic business objectives.
- Design camera and illumination optical systems/sub-systems for endoscopy and perform detailed quantitative analyses of their imaging & video performance.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define requirements for image and video quality.
- Drive in-process and end-of-line optical test methodology used in component and device manufacturing.
- Work with clinical engineering and product management to translate user feedback on visualization quality into bench-testable design improvements.
- Organize design reviews to ensure optimal imaging design performance across disposable instruments, capital hardware, and software interfaces.
- Create change orders, test protocols/reports and design documents.
- Complete Design Verification testing and risk management activities.
- Interact with suppliers and internal operations representatives to perform root cause investigation, component lifecycle management and continuous improvement.
- Create, operate and maintain an optical test bench and testing laboratory environment complying with Calyxo's internal Quality Management System.
- Contribute to the technology roadmap for visualization and related research endeavors.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation among engineering and cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring prototypes to the market.
- Mentor junior and non-specialist engineering talent, promoting a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Requirements:
- MS in Imaging Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical field. PhD preferred and 4+ years of experience in product development related to camera and illumination system design/characterization.
- Deep technical expertise in camera and illumination system quantitative analysis, including relevant standards (e.g. ISO 8600, 12233, 14524 and 15739) and colorimetry, including practical application of CIE ΔE and ΔC measurement.
- Practical experience in hands-on laboratory optics, including use of optical test targets, backlights, optomechanics, meters, sensors and other test equipment.
- Experience performing photometric and radiometric quantitative analyses of illumination systems, including power meters, spectroradiometers and spectrophotometers.
- Practical working knowledge of analog and digital electronics fundamentals.
- Experience using Imatest software for image quality assessment.
- Proficiency in Python or alternative scripting language for image/video analysis, hardware control and test automation strongly preferred.

- Experience leading external vendors and contract manufacturers in the development of custom imaging solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience working as part of multifunctional technical project teams through all development lifecycle phases.
- Experience in requirements definition, design reviews, change management and risk control.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills are a must.
- Ability to work independently or in a team setting required.
- Must be self-directed, self-motivated and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Experience and involvement with MDRs, IDEs, and 510(k) filings is preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to interpret and follow applicable regulations, guidelines, and policy statements is required. Must have experience working under quality systems designed to meet governmental regulations such as FDA QSR, ISO 13485, and the MDD.
