Our client is currently seeking a Senior Highway Design Engineer to join their Fairfax County office. The transportation planning and design team partners with public agencies and private developers throughout Northern Virginia to deliver innovative solutions that enhance traffic flow and promote public safety. As a Senior Highway Design Engineer, you'll collaborate closely with internal leadership and take on the following key responsibilities:
Essential Responsibilities:
Supervise the preparation, planning, and development of project design components, including but not limited to:
- Design of roadway and trail systems, including geometry, vertical alignments, super-elevation, cross sections, and traffic management.
- Development of open and closed storm drainage systems, along with stormwater management.
- Hydrology and Hydraulic (H&H) computations.
- Management of both "wet" and "dry" utilities.
- Supervise and provide guidance on others' designs, modeling, and technical documentation.
- Foster and maintain a positive team culture.
- Provide training and mentorship to new and junior staff members.
- Enhance leadership and visibility in transportation services through active participation in civic, political, professional, and business organizations.
- Use accounting and project management systems to prepare client invoices and monitor, as well as improve, project financial performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Over 3 years of experience in transportation design.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
- Licensed or actively pursuing a P.E. (Professional Engineer) certification.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles related to transportation engineering.
- Exceptional teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
