Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Senior Global Programs Manager plays a key role in administering undergraduate education abroad opportunities for academic credit at the University of Pennsylvania. This position maintains a study abroad advising portfolio, primarily specializing in global opportunities for engineering and nursing students, along with additional regional areas of focus as needed. This position also manages Penn's summer term for academic credit, which is launching in its pilot year in summer 2025. Over time, Penn's summer term for academic credit will integrate into the overall study abroad advising portfolio across all regions and disciplines. This position will be responsible for the smooth transition of systems and processes of the summer term pilot into the overall cycle for study abroad opportunities at Penn.

The Senior Global Programs Manager cultivates and maintains positive relationships with international partners, external stakeholders, and on-campus colleagues as relevant to the regional and programmatic portfolio. The Senior Global Programs Manager also serves in a leadership role among the study abroad programming team.

The SGPM supervises all Global Program Managers within the study abroad team, managing workload and delegating tasks as needed to ensure smooth operation of this body of work. The SGPM guides their respective team through various systems and processes related to the portfolio, including setting the annual advising schedule, leading pre-departure orientation planning and execution, managing the Global Correspondents program, managing the semester grade checks process, managing the semester petition process, and other cross-functional responsibilities as defined by the Associate Director.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
•  Supervise all Global Programs Managers within the study abroad team.
•  Lead the study abroad programming team in various processes, including establishing the annual advising schedule, planning and executing pre-departure orientations, managing the Global Correspondents program, managing the grade check process, managing the petition process, and other cross-functional responsibilities for the semester abroad team as defined by the Associate Director.
•  Advise Penn undergraduate students on available education abroad opportunities in individual and group sessions, ensuring compliance with the Penn Abroad and home school advising models, including providing pre-departure programming, administrative support, and post-experience programming students.
•  Manage Penn's summer study abroad term for academic credit, including all parts of its implementation through the summer 2025 pilot and in its integration into the overall study abroad portfolio of work thereafter.
•  Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with international partners, external stakeholders, and on-campus colleagues as relevant to regional and programmatic portfolio.
•  Represent Penn Abroad in various student outreach capacities throughout the academic year including promoting global opportunities at the annual Penn Abroad fair and during admitted students and new student events on campus.
•  Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
•  A bachelor's degree and 3-5 of experience in education abroad advising and/or program management, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Master's degree preferred but not required.
•  Previous experience managing a team strongly preferred.
•  Previous experience in a study abroad office, or similar student services office, strongly preferred.
•  Demonstrated organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, and intercultural communication skills.
•  Commitment to student service and ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and university representatives from different cultural backgrounds.
•  Excellent judgement and ability to deal with difficult situations. Experience in crisis management.
•  Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and professional staff of a large institution preferred but not required.
•  Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed, including being able to serve as a staff leader for the Penn Global Seminars (PGS) program at least once per academic year. Staff travel needs, including PGS staff leading , vary annually according to the needs of the Penn Abroad team.
•  Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.
•  Experience with the Terra Dotta application management system strongly preferred.
•  Experience working, studying, or living abroad preferred but not required.
•  Proficiency in one or more languages other than English preferred but not required.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
