Responsibilities

MTSI is seeking a lead front-end developer to join a small, agile team focused on consolidating multiple standalone web applications into a unified, production-grade platform-a true "single pane of glass" experience. This individual will play a key role in driving the architecture, design, and development of this new application, integrating functionality from numerous smaller apps into a scalable, high-performance solution.

Given that the team is just starting this initiative, the work will be fast-paced and dynamic, requiring a candidate who thrives in ambiguity and can establish best practices from the ground up. There is significant flexibility in shaping the technology stack and development approach, and this person will have the opportunity to set the technical direction for the front-end development effort. They will also collaborate closely with a small but highly skilled backend team of API developers and data engineers to ensure seamless integration with backend services.

We are particularly interested in candidates proficient in at least one modern JavaScript framework (Vue.js, React, Next.js, etc.), with a preference for those who can quickly build and iterate in their chosen stack. While the team is currently using Next.js, we are open to other frameworks if the candidate demonstrates strong expertise and efficiency in another.
From a DevOps and deployment perspective, applications will be deployed on GCP Cloud Run and require containerization, pushing images to GCP Artifact Registry, and managing deployments via GitLab CI/CD pipelines. The candidate must be comfortable working with Git-based workflows (GitLab/GitHub), managing branches across development, test, and production environments, and implementing CI/CD best practices.

Bonus points for experience with Kubernetes, as future deployments may involve container orchestration within a Kubernetes cluster.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technical leader who wants to shape the future of a critical application, influence technology decisions, and work in a flexible, high-impact environment.

You'll be a great fit for this role if:

• You like to be at the forefront of change, working with military, industry, academia, and investment communities to shape the future of technology in the Air Force.

• You like to rapidly modernize, automate, and improve processes.

• You excel at paying attention to detail and providing excellent products in a professional environment.

• You are passionate about continuous learning and growth, and you seek opportunities to challenge yourself.

• You are driven to make a meaningful impact through your work.

Responsibilities:

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates, and ensure alignment with business goals.

• Design and implement scalable solutions on the Google Cloud Platform, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.

• Participate in agile activities like stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to ensure timely delivery of features.

• Create and maintain reusable component libraries to promote consistency and reusability across multiple projects.

• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for front-end applications to ensure rapid and reliable deployment cycles.

• Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.

• Optimize front-end applications for performance and scalability.

• Stay up-to-date with emerging front-end technologies and trends, and make recommendations for adoption.

• Collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate designs and wireframes into high-quality, interactive user interfaces.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

• 10+ Years of experience Required

• Extensive experience with a modern front-end framework such as React, Next.js or Vue.js

• Experience designing and implementing cloud-based front-end architectures on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with a focus on scalability, reliability, and security.

• Strong understanding of authentication flows (e.g., OAuth, etc.)

• Experience with implementing application-specific authorization logic

• Capable of managing GitLab repositories and associated CI/CD pipelines

• Strong communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams

• U.S. Citizen

Desired skills:

• Back-end development experience

• Data engineering experience, working directly with back-end tech stacks

• Google Cloud Platform Associate Cloud Engineer Certificate or similar cloud certificate

• Experience with Python, Java or any other programming language

Education Requirements:

• STEM - Bachelor's degree and 12+ years OR Master's degree and 10+ years

Clearance Requirements:

• A Secret clearance is desired.

• Candidates must be Secret-eligible with an expectation of an interim Secret clearance within 3 months.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

• Applicants should plan on in-person work, but some remote work may be possible based on customer requirements, project needs and travel.

• Occasional travel may be required to government and industry locations.
