Who we are

Today's healthcare is trapped in a cycle of reactive care and poor health outcomes. It relies on infrequent snapshots of our health and is blind to what happens outside the doctor visits. This results in a broken system of delayed diagnoses and treatment only after diseases manifested.

We are building the real-time interface for human health. Our biosensing platform enables predictive and deeply personalized care by continuously and non-invasively decoding molecular signals from your body. As AI reshapes the world, this biological insight in real-time is the foundation for fully autonomous AI physicians across clinical and consumer applications.

We are a DARPA- and VC-backed, early-stage MIT spin-off, founded by a duo of builders with deep expertise in molecular sensing, engineering, and data science. We are partnering with world-leading clinicians and scientists to build the most advanced interface for human health.

Your Role

As our Founding Hardware Engineer, you will lead the development of Guardian, the first wearable prototype of our real-time interface for human health. You will transform our biosensing platform from a planar format into a robust, manufacturable, and skin-deployable wearable.

You will have a foundational role spanning mechanical design, soft materials, microfabrication, and system integration. You will design, test, and integrate key components and subsystems of the interface. You will drive everything from 3D design, fixture prototyping, and device integration to encapsulation strategies, material sourcing, and rigorous testing of new architectures.

This is a high-ownership, high-impact role. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, iterates fast from problem to prototype, from prototype to product, and leads with ownership and precision.

What you will work on

Your mission is to bring the first wearable prototype of Guardian to life. From concept to a fully functional prototype ready for real-world testing. Guardian is a nanotech-powered, minimally invasive wearable biosensor that continuously monitors molecular biomarkers in real-time to provide deep, personal insights to protect and improve our health.

Your key responsibilities

  • Shape the future of human health by developing our platform from a planar format into a robust, manufacturable, and skin-deployable wearable.
  • Design and prototype mechanical systems integrating soft and structural materials at the device level.
  • Develop test setups and simulate deployment conditions, including mechanical loading and hydration-triggered exposure.
  • Evaluate and integrate advanced materials (e.g., polymers, thin films) for protective encapsulation and controlled sensing-layer exposure.
  • Drive derisking and validation across mechanical and materials subsystems, identifying failure modes and ensuring real-world robustness.
  • Translate benchtop concepts into manufacturable prototypes, supporting scale-up through material sourcing, vendor engagement, and iterative design.
  • Build an elite and mission-driven engineering team and establish an execution-focused engineering culture, with an opportunity to lead the hardware team.
  • Develop clear protocols, test documentation, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support internal scaling and reproducibility.

Who we are looking for

  • Obsession with human health, deeply caring about enabling people across the world to live healthier and happier lives, and a desire to build foundational technology that makes it possible.
  • Love for building things from scratch, doing prototyping, testing, and iterating toward manufacturable solutions.
  • Bias toward execution, not just ideation - moving fast to test hypotheses, iterate, documenting well, and validating under uncertainty.
  • Leadership potential and passion for working in and leading teams.
  • Firm grasp of materials and mechanical systems, especially for bio-integrated or skin-contact devices.
  • Experience with soft materials, coatings, and structural design under mechanical and fluidic constraints.

Experiences that intrigue us

  • Experience with microneedles, soft wearable devices, implantable platforms, or fluid-activated materials.
  • Experience mentoring or leading small technical teams, with potential to grow into a leadership role.
  • Familiarity with biocompatibility testing, controlled-release materials, or dissolvable/rupturable encapsulation layers.
  • History of working with vendors for material sourcing or small-batch fabrication.

What you need to succeed

  • Educational Background: MS, PhD, Postdoc, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Bioengineering, or a related field. We care far more about what you have built than what your degree says.
  • Expertise in either:
  • Polymer/material testing
  • Photolithography or MEMS-style fabrication
  • Skills:
  • Structural modeling (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation)
  • Skilled across CAD, material evaluation, and experimental validation workflows.
  • Comfortable with the full cycle of hands-on prototyping, testing, and iteration.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with excellent documentation habits.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and energized by interdisciplinary, fast-paced work.

What We Promise

Culture

  • Build the most advanced interface for human health and lay the foundation for fully autonomous AI physicians.
  • Take full ownership of critical hardware systems with the autonomy to make key technical decisions and shape the product roadmap.
  • An opportunity to build and lead a world-class and mission-driven team and engineering culture from the ground up.
  • From tackling complex and multidisciplinary challenges at the cutting edge of human health, biosensing, data science, and clinical application.

Compensation & Perks

  • $100,000-$130,000 salary and a meaningful equity package, based on experience level.
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance, and additional health benefits (e.g., Function Health, gym subscription).
  • Generous PTO and an inclusive, collaborative work environment.
