Hiring Department Environmental Health & Safety Job Description Essential Position Responsibilities: Perform laboratory inspections for safety and environmental compliance Perform other safety inspections as requested and/required for university regulatory compliance, e.g. universal waste, shop safety, etc. Prepare and ship campus dangerous goods in compliance with DOT/IATA Conduct campus chemical / biological material inventories and assist in maintaining inventory database Perform and/or provide guidance to individuals conducting safety shower, eye wash stations, and fume hood inspections Assist with conducting fire extinguisher inspections, when needed Assist with collecting industrial hygiene samples Provide back up support to technician(s) collecting and/or inspecting campus Chemical Waste Respond to calls from campus personnel and assist with spill clean-up, air monitoring, etc. Attend training sessions that are required to maintain knowledge and skills for job position Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications An associate's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Management, or a related field is preferred but not required A minimum of three years' experience in laboratory and/or research activities is preferred but not required A valid driver's license is required Must submit to a baseline and periodic physical exams as required by law Must be able to wear a (full face)respirator (fit test and medical examination will occur within 6 months of hire) Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $18.75-$23.00 hourly. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
