About Us
Over the past 15 years, we saw every company become a fintech company and we believe that in the next decade - every company will transform into a stablecoin company. At HIFI, we are on a mission to create the tools to power the next chapter of the internet to allow fintechs and enterprises to create entirely new money movement experiences with stablecoins. We move billions across every corner of the world from the U.S., Latam, Africa, and APAC - while working with ambitious startups to reimagine new financial applications and established Fortune 500s.
We are a team of builders, operators, and problem solvers based in the heart of the financial services capital: New York City. Our team is deeply focused on shipping world-class tech products and is rooted in a strong sense of business acumen to create global financial products (Uber, Square, Coinbase, Citi, PWC, Quadpay). We are backed by world-class investors, including Fabric VC, Elevate Growth Fund, Side Door Ventures, and more.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead and scale one of our most critical teams at HIFI. You'll oversee the team responsible for building the backend systems that power stablecoin payments, bank settlements, compliance automation, and customer onboarding across global markets.
This is a deeply technical leadership role that requires balancing long-term architectural thinking with fast-paced execution. You'll be expected to dive into complex engineering problems, drive roadmap and prioritization in collaboration with Product and Compliance, and build a high-performing team that values ownership, clarity, and reliability.
At HIFI, engineering managers are not shielded from complexity - they lean into it. You'll work closely with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver infrastructure that is both scalable and trusted by businesses operating in regulated environments.
What You'll Do
- Lead a mission-critical team responsible for building and operating core backend systems across settlement, onboarding, ledgering, and compliance workflows.
- Drive technical strategy and execution, setting clear goals and ensuring the team ships high-quality code on time and at scale.
- Partner with product, compliance, and external partners (including banks and stablecoin issuers) to define and deliver roadmap initiatives with real-world financial impact.
- Own hiring, coaching, and career development for a growing team of engineers. You'll shape the culture and practices of HIFI Engineering as we scale.
- Contribute to technical design and architecture reviews, and remain close to the code and system health to inform better decision-making.
- Hold a high bar for operational excellence, including uptime, reliability, security, and incident response.
Who You Are
- You have 8+ years of backend engineering experience, with 2+ years in a formal engineering management role.
- You've led teams that have built and scaled infrastructure for payments, financial services, or similarly demanding systems.
- You have deep experience in designing and operating production systems at scale-whether in distributed systems, data infrastructure, or API platforms.
- You care about building strong engineering cultures grounded in autonomy, feedback, clarity, and accountability.
- You can fluidly move between systems architecture, execution planning, and people leadership.
- You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, especially in a regulated or high-stakes environment, and are adept at balancing tradeoffs between technical debt and delivery speed.
- You are an excellent communicator and collaborator-especially with non-technical stakeholders like legal, operations, and external partners.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in the payments or stablecoin ecosystem.
- Familiarity with Node.js, Postgres, AWS, Terraform, Docker, and event-driven architectures.
- Background working at an early-stage company or in a 0-to-1 technical environment.
Location & Collaboration
We believe speed and iteration are a competitive advantage, and that's best achieved together in person. Most of our team works from our NYC office in Flatiron, and we encourage in-person collaboration where possible.
Compensation
The base salary for this role ranges from $180,000-$225,000 depending on experience, with meaningful equity and performance-based incentives. We also offer full health benefits, commuter stipends, and flexible PTO.
Diversity & Inclusion
HIFI is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We encourage applications from candidates who may not meet every qualification but believe they can add value to our mission and culture.
