We're seeking a Sr. Manager of Engineering to lead the Mobility APIs team-a global, distributed group of engineers in the U.S. and Brazil focused on secure, scalable APIs that power card issuance, spend controls, and real-time transaction management. This is a hands-on leadership role, perfect for someone who thrives in both strategy and execution, architecture and action.
This role is 100% remote, with light travel (as needed) and requires candidates to be based in one of our designated U.S. hiring hubs: San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Portland (ME), or Washington, D.C.
What You'll Do:
- Develop, drive, and execute a long-term vision and strategy for the Mobility APIs platform, supporting vehicle management, card issuance, lifecycle, transactions, and spend controls.
- Lead system design and architecture, making informed decisions on API technologies (e.g., REST vs gRPC) to best support performance, scalability, and interoperability.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive architectural roadmap aligned with business goals, while tracking team capacity with a detailed resource and workstream map.
- Serve as the Single-Threaded Owner (STO) for major engineering initiatives, guiding them from idea to execution.
- Hire, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team while cultivating a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Drive engineering productivity using data-driven KPIs, agile practices, and automation, including the use of AI-assisted development tools.
What You Bring:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 4+ years in technical leadership or management roles
- Master's degree in computer science or related field
- Proficiency in Java programming
- Experience with Spring Boot framework
- Strong understanding of RESTful API development
- Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Solid knowledge of relational databases (RDBMS), including SQL and PostgreSQL
- Expertise in developing large-scale distributed systems and proven experience in testing and validating solutions for accuracy and performance
- Ability to automate generating scaffolding code, unit tests, and integration tests using past execution data and generative AI
- Strong understanding of security and compliance requirements in cloud and data environments.
