Lazurite designs medtech devices. Its ArthroFree System includes the first wireless camera with FDA clearance for arthroscopy and endoscopy. Free of cumbersome camera cables, ArthroFree enables surgeons to work with maximum dexterity, precision, and focus. Without camera-cable-related interruptions, surgeons are able to keep their eyes on the monitor-and on their patients' well-being. Lazurite commenced commercialization (initial sales) of its first product ArthroFree in 2023.

Position Summary

The Embedded Systems Engineer primary responsibility will be to drive the development and launch of innovative surgical devices for peripheral nerves. The Embedded Systems Engineer will work in all research and development activities related to vision and display systems, medical lighting and illumination, and wireless connectivity.

Responsibilities
  • Develop embedded hardware focused on digital camera design and digital displays.
    • Develop FPGA code for camera ISP, image processing, and display.
    • Integrate 802.11 (Wi-Fi) and other wireless standards.
  • Develop LED and Laser driver controllers including variable current drive and PWM.
  • Develop lowest power design, power management, and battery power.
  • Improve and maintain hardware and codebase and prepare it for formal validation as well as FDA submission including documentation and version control.
  • Board level design including schematic capture and PCB design.
  • Support manufacturing in the development of testing procedures, debugging the firmware and for any patch code that may be needed.
  • Collaborate with the current engineering team to plan, architect, and implement future embedded systems in new devices.
  • Participate in design reviews and code reviews for and new existing firmware.
  • Create and maintain testing systems and protocols for existing and future products.
  • Responsible for supporting new product development via engineering analysis, simulation, preparation and testing of prototypes, and other duties.
  • Understanding of the overall performance of products within the business and helping to identify potential areas of improvement.
  • Manage design for reliability, regulatory compliance, manufacturability, testability, and cost for current and developed products.
  • Creation of design control documentation including system requirements and functional analysis.
  • Design, Analysis, and Testing of products and prototypes to demonstrate function and required regulatory compliance.
  • Develop microcontroller and CPU firmware as part of development activities
  • Use project management skills to meet deadlines and project requirements.
Qualifications

Hardware
  • Expertise in embedded CPU and microcontroller-based hardware design.
  • Expertise in ARM Based Microcontroller and SOC architectures.
  • Expertise in low power design, power management, and battery powered operation.
  • Expertise in FPGA development and integration, including AMD/Xilinx development.
  • Broad knowledge of wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, BT, and BLE.
  • Proficient in understanding of power management, low power design, LED and laser driver development.
  • Proficient in designing products to meet safety standards such as IEC 60601 as well as IEC 60601-1-2.
  • Knowledge of Wireless power/charging, preferred.
  • Ability to guide PCB layout work and use tools, preferred.
Firmware
  • Knowledge of C, C
  • Familiar with Linux or RTOS based development, preferred.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, and device drivers, preferred.
Tools
  • Schematic Capture: Altium or Eagle schematic capture.
  • Using of Oscilloscopes and other test equipment
  • Soldering
General
  • Working with a quality management system such as ISO 9001 or IEC13485 as well as IEC 62304.
  • Work effectively in a small, nimble team - engaging external technical resources as needed using clear communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and proficient in experimental setup and tracking.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent judgement and a demonstrated track record of data-driven decisions.
  • Standard computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio).
  • Understanding of medical device DHF, DMR, and DHR files management and documentation requirements, preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of video and lighting technologies, preferred.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years' experience with new product development and system architecture.
  • Master's degree, preferred.
