Position Overview
This role involves developing electronics and software/firmware for advanced laser products. You will work within the electronics and software team to own design, testing, documentation, and other development activities for ongoing projects. Responsibilities include designing new products from scratch or updating existing ones to meet new specifications, understanding production capabilities, and focusing on creating innovative solutions to build effective products for customers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Designing new laser systems from concept through manufacturing, testing, and creating assembly instructions and bills of materials.
- Collaborating with laser engineers to ensure controls, procedures, and specifications are maintained.
- Considering customer requirements throughout the design process.
- Working with engineering and project teams to achieve solutions.
- Meeting project deadlines.
- Managing relevant parts of engineering projects.
- Performing tolerance calculations as needed.
- Ensuring designs can be manufactured with satisfactory yield and cost, in collaboration with suppliers.
- Finding and selecting suppliers for new capabilities.
- Assembling initial prototypes to verify specifications.
- Programming in C, VHDL, etc., to support circuit design.
- Documenting and releasing all work via PLM/PDM and other systems.
- Ensuring products meet safety and compliance standards through testing and documentation.
- Continuously improving product design, production, and cost efficiency.
Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Travel
- A relevant engineering degree.
- Ability to lead product development in electronics and software, with strong communication skills across management and engineering disciplines.
- Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail, quality, and reliability.
- Team player with practical and methodical working practices.
- Expertise in electronic or software engineering.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple activities.
- Innovative mindset.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Over 10 years of experience in developing electronics or firmware for embedded systems across the product lifecycle.
- Knowledge of laser systems is desirable.
- Up-to-date knowledge of electronic and software technologies.
- Experience working with external partners and performing tolerance calculations.
- Experience documenting designs and creating cost-effective solutions.
Travel Expectations
Approximately 10-20% annually, mostly within Europe, potentially globally.
