Senior Electrical Protection Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled High Voltage Protection Engineer with a solid foundation in protection design, power systems, and hands-on hardware experience. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing electrical protection systems, primarily for high-voltage applications. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of electrical systems in complex, high-power environments.


Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize protection systems for high-voltage networks, including battery storage, power converters, and inverters.
  • Perform system studies, including short circuit analysis, protection coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis. Ensure compliance with IEEE-1584 and NFPA-70E.
  • Test high-voltage equipment following NETA guidelines and ensure compliance with safety standards. Conduct safety tests on energy storage systems and battery packs.
  • Lead failure analysis for power converters and grid-tied inverters. Ensure components pass safety testing.
  • Work with engineering teams to refine protection system specs, device coordination, and failure analysis for improved system safety.
  • Maintain documentation on system designs, test results, and compliance. Provide project progress updates.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years in power system protection, with hands-on experience in hardware and protection design.
  • Proficient in system protection design and coordination for high-voltage systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and protection devices.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing and troubleshooting in high-voltage environments.
  • Familiarity with power system simulation software (e.g., ETAP, MATLAB, LabVIEW).
  • Knowledge of industry standards and codes, including IEEE, NFPA, and NETA.
  • Experience with power electronics, inverters, and electrical panel design. Proficiency with simulation tools such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, and ETAP is highly preferred.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
