Senior Estimator Responsibilities

  • Bid Preparation & Estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for general engineering and electrical construction projects, ensuring competitive and profitable bids.
  • Project Analysis: Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope, risks, and cost factors.
  • Quantity Takeoffs: Perform material and labor takeoffs for all aspects of construction, including electrical systems, civil infrastructure, and public works projects.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing and compliance with project specifications.
  • Software Utilization: Use estimating software (preferably McCormick), scheduling software, and project management tools to develop and track estimates.
  • Cost Control & Budgeting: Develop cost control measures and budgets to optimize project financial performance.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure estimates comply with Caltrans, Public Works, and other regulatory requirements while preparing necessary submittal documents.
  • Value Engineering: Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and alternative materials/methods to enhance project efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to refine estimates and support project execution.
  • Market & Industry Research: Stay up to date with industry trends, material costs, labor rates, and construction best practices.
  • Post-Bid Support: Assist in contract negotiations, scope clarifications, and transitions from pre-construction to project execution.


Minimum qualifications:


  • Construction Estimation or Project Engineer experience and or BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Working knowledge of estimating software (preferably McCormick), scheduling software, project management software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Bluebeam, and Outlook
  • Proven proficiency with Caltrans and Public Works is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years estimating or other relevant experience in closing construction estimates
  • Experience with city street lighting and traffic signal work is a plus
