Senior Electrical Engineer

Location: Onsite - Houston, TX

Team: Engineering Reports to VP of Engineering

About Helix Earth

Helix Earth is a mission-driven climate tech startup redesigning how we cool and dehumidify buildings. Born from innovations originally developed for NASA, our patented retrofit system delivers superior dehumidification, energy savings, and healthier ventilation - without replacing existing HVAC infrastructure. We're moving fast to bring our solution from lab to field and are looking for a sharp, hands-on electrical engineer to help us scale.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced prototyping and productization environment. You'll own the electrical design and integration for our HVAC retrofit product - from early prototypes to production-ready systems. This role is highly cross-functional, fast-moving, and focused on real-world deployment - not just design simulation.

You'll work on:

  • Custom PCBs
  • Embedded microcontrollers
  • Cable assemblies
  • Design validation & test procedures
  • Field-deployable electrical systems

This is a startup build role, not a consulting or facilities role. You'll solder, debug, document, and push designs into the field, sometimes all in the same day.

You Will
  • Lead electrical system design from concept through production and field deployment
  • Own PCB layout, cable assembly design, and system-level schematics
  • Write and maintain SOPs, test plans, and internal electrical standards
  • Support creation of BOMs, wire harness specs, and DVT procedures
  • Select and integrate sensors, actuators, relays, and controllers for HVAC-relevant environments
  • Develop embedded firmware (C/C ) or partner with firmware lead for control logic
  • Work closely with mechanical and thermal teams on fit, routing, and system integration
  • Lead and document design validation testing, production handoffs, and field commissioning support
  • Participate in ECO/ECN processes as design evolves through pilot and production cycles
You Should Have
  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in product-focused EE roles (not infrastructure or facilities-only)
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • PCB design and bring-up
  • System schematics + wire harness design
  • Embedded C/C programming
  • UL/CE compliance or safety certification processes
  • Test fixture design, bench validation, and small-scale manufacturing support
  • Demonstrated ability to own electrical design through production release
  • Startup-ready mindset: resourceful, proactive, comfortable with ambiguity and tight loops
This Role is Not a Fit For
  • Engineers focused on substation, MEP, or high-voltage-only design
  • Candidates without PCB and embedded experience
  • Engineers who've only worked in large orgs or R&D and haven't shipped physical products
  • Candidates looking for a narrow or siloed role - we need generalists who can execute
Bonus Experience
  • Liquid desiccant systems, HVAC retrofit exposure, or building automation
  • Support for pilot production, field deployment, or install QA
  • Familiarity with ECO/ECN workflows, production transfer, or supplier coordination
Why Join Us?
  • Help scale a high-impact technology that tackles both climate and indoor air quality
  • Get in early at a fast-moving, engineering-led startup
  • Competitive compensation, equity, benefits, and real ownership
  • Direct influence over product outcomes and company trajectory
