Overview

The Senior DevOps Engineer is a member of the DevOps Team, reporting to the Director, DevOps. The DevOps team is responsible for bridging the gap between development and operations to ensure smooth and efficient software delivery. They manage the infrastructure, automate deployment pipelines, and monitor system performance to ensure applications are reliable, scalable, and secure. The team works on continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes, enabling rapid releases and updates. They also focus on maintaining system uptime, troubleshooting operational issues, and implementing best practices for cloud management, infrastructure as code, and automation, all to support the development cycle and improve operational efficiency.

The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for working with architects to independently implement, and manage highly available, scalable, secure, and automated systems on AWS, including observability, CI/CD pipelines, security controls, and operational processes while collaborating with engineering teams to achieve business objectives. They are further responsible for participating in on-call support and providing guidance to junior teammates to assist with their development.

Responsibilities
  • Implement systems that are highly available, scalable, observable, secure, and self-healing with complete autonomy
  • Define and deploy observability systems enabling teams to gain technical and business insights and avoid system failures via metrics, logging, and tracing.
  • Design, manage, and maintain tools to automate operational processes at an advanced level
  • Understand, implement, and automate complex security controls, governance processes, and compliance validation.
  • Implement and manage continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) systems and methodologies on the AWS platform with complete autonomy, beginning to think about long term strategy
  • Propose solutions to complex problems, occasionally leading projects to achieve business objectives both independently and collaboratively with teammates.
  • Provide support and guidance to more junior teammates with their responsibilities
  • Complete tasks with limited oversight and input from management and higher level teammates
  • Implement and design new architectures in collaboration with architects
  • Owns the full lifecycle of projects assigned by architects, including planning, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring alignment with technical requirements, business objectives, and quality standards.
  • This position may have time required off-hours or on-call to troubleshoot issues, provide support and respond to outages.
Requirements
  • Required
  • 5-7 years experience developing in Python, Java, Node.js, Go, Bash or similar
  • 5-7 years experience in automation, configuration management and testing via shell scripting, and tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins.
  • 5-7 years Database management expertise, ideally with experience in PostgreSQL.
  • 5-7 years experience with Containers and Kubernetes.
  • 5-7 years experience provisioning, operating, and managing AWS environments.
  • 5-7 years experience managing Linux/Unix like systems.
  • Advanced understanding of agile and other development processes and methodologies.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills with both management and peers.
  • Passionate about technology, automation and security.
  • Preferred
  • Special consideration given to candidates with AWS DevOps/SysOps/developer certifications, as well as those with experience supporting Data Scientists, Big Data, and/or ML/AI workloads or knowledge and understanding of HIPAA regulations.
The estimated hiring range for this role is $122,000 - $168,000 (plus applicable bonus/plus equity). This hiring range could vary by region based upon local market data. Final salary is ultimately decided upon taking into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to: skills and experience, licensure and certifications, education, specific location and dynamic market data.
