Job Summary

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for supporting new product development and sustaining product improvements by developing and refining design concepts, completing engineering analysis and CAD models, and qualifying and documenting product designs in accordance with Follett standards and industry compliance standards. Responsibilities include participating in assigned product and process projects supporting teamwork, project planning, coordinating supplier component development, providing technical inputs and problem solving, and field follow-up as required.

Essential Functions:

• Perform detailed engineering analysis utilizing appropriate formulas and calculations; complete technical feasibility investigations

for new or improved product or component design concepts.

• Utilize 3D CAD tools and direct others to develop and communicate design concepts; complete models, layouts, and details for

new or revised products assemblies and components.

• Select and recommend design approaches considerate of product/component performance requirements required by the

customer, conforming to industry compliance standards, and within capabilities of manufacturing and assembly processes.

• Support the development of qualification test plans and procedures to assure that the performance and reliability of product

designs meet objectives. Complete test set-up, perform tests, data acquisition and reduction, support analysis and documentation

of results.

• Complete design documentation package for product release including appropriate design files, drawings, component

specifications, item descriptions and BOM's.

• Provide direction to the model shop for the fabrication and assembly of prototypes and test set-ups. Assist with product

introduction training.

• Develop and design product improvements for existing products, qualify product changes, update compliance documentation,

and document design via the ECO process.

• Provide estimates of resources and time required to meet objectives.

• Provide technical and other progress reports as required.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred or an equivalent combination of experience and

education required.

• Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience required.

• Proficiency in the use of CAD (AutoDesk Inventor preferred) for the development of design concepts and product documentation.

• In-depth knowledge of technical design and analysis of mechanical (electrical) systems.

• Knowledge of relevant industry compliance design requirements.

• Knowledge of refrigeration systems. Experience with appliance or commercial refrigeration is favorable.

• Demonstrated capability for creating and improving product designs and the ability to direct other drafting and design functions.

• Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel (Microsoft Project preferred).

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in office, lab, and shop floor environment (temperature controlled/non-temperature controlled)

• Extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking.

• Lifting/moving objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

• Regular use of hands and fingers to type on keyboard, operate computer mouse, use of telephone and various office equipment.

• Extended periods of viewing computer monitor.

• Noise level in work environment: low to moderate.

Travel Requirements:

• Travel within US (10%) as needed to conduct site visits with suppliers, customers, industry meetings, and training programs.
