We are seeking an experienced and highly technical Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with 8+ years of experience in SQL Server (2014/2016/2019), SSIS, DB2, and both OLTP and OLAP data modeling using ERWIN. The Senior DBA will play a leading role in managing the enterprise data infrastructure, focusing on data modeling, performance optimization, high availability, and disaster recovery.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in configuring and maintaining SQL Server in virtualized and clustered environments, with hands-on experience in SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as a key member of the database team responsible for end-to-end database administration, planning, and performance management.
  • Lead data modeling efforts for OLTP and OLAP systems using ERWIN to ensure scalable and efficient data architecture.
  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases in both virtual and clustered environments.
  • Administer DB2 databases, ensuring integration and synchronization with SQL Server systems.
  • Develop and manage SSIS packages for ETL workflows supporting data integration and transformation.
  • Monitor and maintain database performance, availability, and reliability, including capacity planning and scaling strategies.
  • Perform and troubleshoot SQL Server backups, restore strategies, and replication processes.
  • Conduct advanced SQL Server performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Implement and support SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) for analytical processing and SSRS for enterprise reporting.
  • Ensure database security, compliance, and disaster recovery protocols are properly implemented and tested.
  • Collaborate with application developers, system engineers, and business analysts to support project needs and resolve database issues.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to system configurations, architecture, processes, and best practices.
MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Note: Candidates who do not have the mandatory skills will not be considered
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in database administration and enterprise-level database management.
  • Expert in:
    • SQL Server 2014/2016/2019 administration
    • SSIS (ETL development)
    • DB2 database environments
    • OLTP and OLAP data modeling using ERWIN
    • SSAS and SSRS for analytics and reporting
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • SQL Server clustering and virtualization
    • Backup/restore strategies, log shipping, replication, and disaster recovery planning
    • Performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies
  • Solid understanding of data governance, security best practices, and audit compliance.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or SQL Server Certification
  • Experience with cloud-based databases and hybrid database architecture
  • Familiarity with DevOps pipelines and automation tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Git) Experience working in large-scale public sector or education environments, especially NYC DOE
