At Deliveroo, we have an outstanding data science organisation dedicated to enabling high-quality human and machine decision-making. Our teams work across product, business, and platform areas using analysis, experimentation, causal inference, and machine learning techniques. We leverage data to support better decisions and enhance data literacy throughout Deliveroo.

Data Scientists at Deliveroo report to our data science management team. We foster a vibrant community with guest lectures, study groups, mentorship programmes, a robust technical review process, and numerous learning opportunities. Data Scientists can progress as technical leads or as people managers.

Our data scientists come from diverse backgrounds but share a commitment to excellence. Many are formally trained in data science, others are not. We celebrate diversity and have a dedicated data science diversity committee.

As an Economist at Deliveroo, you will help scale our business and improve experiences for restaurants, riders, and customers. Using experimental or observational data, you will address questions such as:

  • Which markets or cities should we enter next?
  • How can we incentivise good rider behaviour?
  • What is the impact of exclusive deals with restaurants?
  • Can the delivery food market support multiple players?
  • What are the trade-offs between growth and profitability?
  • What is the optimal restaurant selection and variety?
  • How do online reviews influence customer choices?
  • What is the effect of UI changes on customer behaviour?

Your work will directly impact the company's bottom line.

Requirements:
  • Masters Degree or PhD in Economics or Econometrics (preferred)
  • Curious and eager to learn new skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset
  • Creative and insightful thinking about economic problems
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking
  • Proficiency with R/Python and familiarity with SQL
  • Industry experience post-academics is ideal
  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills to translate business needs into economic problems
