DescriptionPURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Senior Data Scientist designs and implements state-of-the-art deep neural networks to solve challenging problems in the railroad industry using machine learning, deep learning, and data modeling.

- Understands the broader economic and financial context of the business, aligning data science initiatives with cost efficiency, revenue impact, and strategic ROI.
- Provides technical leadership in the selection, scoping, and execution of AI projects
- Maintains a good working knowledge of the offerings of major AI vendors
- Assess the technical feasibility and optimization of AI to achieve commercial viability for both cost and performance of algorithms
Model Development, Analysis, and Strategy (60%) - Leads and drives the architecting and coding of AI algorithms, Machine Learning architectures delivered on an AI platform, including training, evaluation, and management of AI models.
- Creates models to solve unique problems using state-of-the-art AI technologies. Use agile and incremental approaches to provide solutions for complex business problems.
- Experience in building and optimizing vision and data-based AI models on the edge.
- Communicate results and ideas to key decision-makers in a way that can be easily understood by business counterparts.
- Develop and productionize working prototypes, proof of concepts, algorithms, predictive models, and custom analysis.
- Collaborate with product management, solution architects, and other departments to understand company needs and devise possible solutions.
- Work with the Data Engineer to develop strategies around data cleaning, data structure, and data tagging.
Research, Development, Learning (10%) - Keep up to date with the latest technological trends and share knowledge with junior team members regularly.
- Determine new innovative ways to improve data and search quality, and predictive capabilities.
QualificationsPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS - MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics with related experience
- 5+ years of experience in developing custom models and using any deep learning frameworks.
- Develop state-of-the-art algorithms in one or all of the following areas: deep learning (convolutional neural networks), object detection/classification, tracking, optimize deep neural networks to run efficiently on an edge device.
- Proficiency in computer vision, image/video/signal processing, machine learning, major modeling environments, TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX, and TensorRT.
- Familiarity with multiple model concepts, VLM, and agentic architecture, and using synthetic images for training.
- Very comfortable in cluster environments (AWS, Google Cloud) and understands the related computer systems concepts (CPU/GPU interactions/transfers, latency/throughput bottlenecks during training of neural networks, pipelining/multiprocessing, etc.).
- Work with other data scientists in developing new and improved AI solutions and work effectively with data engineers to build robust data pipelines.
- Play an analytical role in researching, designing, implementing, and deploying full-stack scalable AI production solutions to challenge various business issues.
- Python programming, other languages, C , and C , preferred.
- SQL scripting and database knowledge
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS - Working conditions as found in a typical office or a remote office location
- Required to be in the office as per company policy
- Mondays & Fridays are remote days. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are required in office days.
This position's anticipated base salary range is $148,000 to $176,600 annually. Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and location.
