Senior Data Engineer (SDE) is responsible for the implementation and support of the data operations for research and lab data management and automation solutions. This role serves as a key group member to support data management, solution architecture and cloud implementation needs of the department.
The Opportunity: - Work closely with the Lab Automation team, bioinformatics, and machine learning scientists to facilitate data ingestion, acquisition, and storage.
- Create automation systems and tools to configure, monitor, and orchestrate data infrastructure and pipelines with a focus on ML Ops
- Create data integration services to help automate data flow from different components such as ELN, Lab Equipment, Data storage, and API endpoints.
- Provide User Interface solutions for data accessibility and transparency.
- Ensure ongoing reliability, performance, and support of data infrastructure, tailoring solutions to meet application needs and accommodate anticipated growth, including advanced analytics and ML model deployments.
- Provide data management support for integrated systems such as NGS equipment, Histology imaging, and liquid handling instruments.
- Consult on feasibility of data solutions with internal business and IT resources.
- Mentor junior developers and review contributions to the code base.
- Contribute to the documentation of data flow, business requirements, and data infrastructure
Who You Are: - B.S. in Computer science, or related engineering field
- 5+ years of practical experience in Python development.
- 5+ years of data management, integration, modeling, and profiling experience.
- 3+ years of experience of Data Lake and large-scale Data Warehousing (Redshift, Databricks, Snowflake)
- Experience in development/integration of variety of APIs and web services technologies such as GraphQL, REST, WebSocket
- Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems.
- Experience building solutions for high-dimensional datasets such as genomic data using Big Data technologies (e.g., HDFS, Impala, Spark, etc.)
- Travel may be required, but infrequently and for short periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of database admin fundamentals and best practices (Postgres preferred)
- Knowledge of enterprise software patterns and conventions
- Strong comprehension of Agile/Scrum methodologies, Software Development Life Cycle, Source Control systems, Git conventions and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of Linux/RHEL environments to perform routine tasks such as bash script and cron job.
- Knowledge of data modeling (relational and non-relational) concepts and principles.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and deployment automation tools e.g., Terraform, Ansible.
- Experience in biotech/pharma is preferred
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Philadelphia is $111,400 to $207,000.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
