A rapidly scaling, Y Combinator-backed company is searching for a Senior Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in optimizing ETL pipelines, scaling data architecture, and mentoring junior engineers Their platform helps researchers quickly create accurate scientific visuals. As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll help scale the internal data platform and lead improvements across pipeline performance, architecture, and mentorship. You'll be instrumental in evolving the data infrastructure that fuels analytics, machine learning, and product innovation.

Job Details

Responsibilities

• Optimize and maintain ETL pipelines to support data science, analytics, product, and machine learning teams
• Guide junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and best practices
• Develop scalable data infrastructure using Spark, dbt, AWS, and Terraform
• Build and support data lake/lakehouse and data warehouse solutions (Redshift or Snowflake preferred)
• Lead data integration efforts using tools such as Airbyte, Stitch, and Airflow
• Own and enhance streaming data systems leveraging platforms like Kinesis and Firehose
• Drive architectural decisions and thoughtfully balance trade-offs in system design
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure data initiatives align with company strategy
• Champion high standards in data quality, security, and discoverability
• Translate complex technical challenges into clear solutions for non-technical stakeholders

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 8-10 years of engineering experience preferably in SaaS or tech-driven organization.
• Required: Experience with Spark, DBT, Terraform, & AWS
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
• Expertise with data warehouses and modern data lake architectures.
• Experience with orchestration and workflow tools like Airflow
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and contribute to team-wide improvement
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
• Passionate about SaaS and genuine interest in the bio-tech / healthcare space

Bonus Points:

• MLOps experience
• Snowflake (nice-to-have) and Kinesis
