Our challenge

As a Senior Data Python Engineer, candidate will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and processing systems. Expertise in Python and Kafka will be essential for building scalable data solutions that support our analytics and business intelligence initiatives.


Additional Information

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Minneapolis, MN is $100k - $105k/year & benefits (see below).


The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines using Python to support data ingestion, transformation, and storage.
  • Implement and manage streaming data applications using Kafka, ensuring high throughput and low latency.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Optimize data processing workflows for performance and scalability.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing validation and monitoring processes.
  • Work with various data storage solutions (e.g., SQL and NoSQL databases) to ensure efficient data retrieval and analysis.
  • Perform data modeling and design schemas that facilitate efficient storage and access patterns.
  • Troubleshoot and debug data processing issues, providing timely resolutions to maintain system integrity.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field, with a strong focus on Python.
  • Proven experience with Apache Kafka and knowledge of event-driven architecture.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in data processing libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy).
  • Familiarity with data storage technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Hadoop).
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts and tools (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and relevant data services.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts and frameworks is a plus.
