Position Overview

Ithaca Energy is accepting applications for the position of Senior Data Engineer located in our Aberdeen Office.

Reporting to the Analytics and Integration Lead, the Senior Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the company's data analytics capabilities.

Responsibilities

Provision of pipeline engineering support across all development projects within the company's portfolio.

  • Supporting Data Platform Program: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain and enhance our modern data platform, leveraging expertise in Synapse and data engineering techniques.
  • Stay up to date with innovation: Understand best practices in data engineering, application of emerging technologies, and stay current with developments in the data space.
  • Analyse, Model and Organise Data: Work with stakeholders and business users to understand data utility, and analyze, model, and organize data into the medallion data lake for reporting.
  • Ensure data quality and data reliability: Drive improvements in data quality assessments, ensure effective, efficient, robust, and timely data processing, and implement validation and cleansing processes.
  • Maintaining Data Governance: Follow data governance policies, maintain data lineage and cataloging for discoverability.
  • Bringing New Data Projects to Life: Lead in initiating, designing, and executing data projects, managing their lifecycle effectively.
  • Deliver Business Insights: Support and deliver analytics and predictive reporting that create business value.
  • Team Growth: Contribute to the growth of the data engineering team through recruitment and mentoring, focusing on expansion.
  • Performance Monitoring: Optimize pipelines and data processing for performance and efficiency.
  • Performance Management: Identify infrastructure improvements, establish monitoring/logging solutions for better visibility and management.
  • Project Scoping and Management: Define project scopes and timelines in collaboration with partners and leads.
  • Data Governance: Collaborate on improving and enforcing Data Governance policies.
  • Code Management: Develop, deploy, and manage code artifacts responsibly.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain comprehensive documentation across the data platform.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and lead activities within the Data Programme.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience with data warehousing, ETL/ELT, integration tools, and BI solutions.
  • Expertise with Synapse (notebooks and data flows) is essential.
  • Working knowledge of PySpark is essential.
  • Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage is essential.
  • Understanding of medallion data lakehouse architecture is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for complex data challenges.
  • Background in data analytics, transformation, and modeling.
  • Knowledge of Master Data Management principles is essential.
  • Passion for working with data; industry exposure is not required.
  • Familiarity with Power BI is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to document and communicate data pipelines effectively with peers and stakeholders.
