Overview: Our client in the annuities sector is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Architect to join their team. This role is designed for Data Architects with a strong architectural mindset to design high-performance data platforms, optimize data pipelines, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate should have deep experience with big data architectures, cloud platforms, and data security best practices while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Architecture & Data Solution Design:
- Define and implement end-to-end data architecture for Data Solutions (CDC, Data Lake, Data Lakehouse, Data Mart) ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
- Design data models, pipelines, and frameworks to support Medallion Architecture.
- Develop high-availability and fault-tolerant data processing architectures that handle large-scale, real-time transactions.
Big Data & Cloud Strategy:
- Architect and implement big data solutions using cloud data technologies including Apache Spark, Databricks, or Snowflake.
- Leverage cloud platforms (Azure preferred) for Data Acquisition and Data Integration - data storage, transformation, and analytics.
- Design near real-time streaming data architectures using Kafka or similar technologies for handling real-time transactions.
Data Governance & Compliance:
- Ensure data integrity, data quality, data lineage, data cataloging, security, and privacy across all data systems.
- Implement data governance frameworks and compliance measures aligned with regulations like GDPR, CCPA, etc.
- Establish audit trails, access controls, and data encryption to meet security and regulatory standards.
- Drive solutions to manage master data, reference data, and third-party data for accurate, effective, and timely business insights.
Performance Optimization & Automation:
- Optimize query performance, indexing/partition strategies, and distributed computing for large-scale datasets.
- Automate ETL/ELT pipelines, data validation, and reconciliation processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Work closely with business partners and cross-team members to define data requirements and align technology solutions with business objectives.
- Manage backlog through execution and delivery.
- Guide and mentor data engineers, ensuring best practices in data architecture, engineering, and security.
- Engage with executive leadership and stakeholders, providing technical recommendations and strategic insights.

- Exercises independent judgment in accordance with specified policies and guidelines.
- Makes decisions on data system and data architectural design, product evaluation, and buy vs. build recommendations.

Minimum Requirements/Essential Functions:
- Ability to demonstrate analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively using oral and written communication in various forms including video.

- Demonstrate proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office suite and other systems utilized by the department.

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or another related field OR equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of experience.
- Hands-on data modeling, data solutions development, and data architecture experience in the data technologies used by the company - SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure DB for PostgreSQL, Power BI.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Provides mentoring to junior level positions and can provide input into junior and peer performance evaluations.
- May have direct reports.
