About The Role
Group Strategy, Innovation and Market Analytics (SIMA) leads on answering high-level strategic questions for National Grid and works with external stakeholders to address industry-wide questions. We are seeking a proactive, knowledgeable Senior Data Analyst to join our Market Analytics team. In this role, you will conduct in-depth energy market analyses, model scenarios, quantify risks and opportunities, upgrade data resources, and develop data workflows for stakeholders.
The team combines market intelligence, sector expertise, and sophisticated modeling tools to provide insights that support strategic decisions across the business.
What You'll Do
- Develop the Market Analytics' Snowflake database to enable data access for analytical teams.
- Translate modeling requirements into data needs, upgrade models, and enable new tools.
- Integrate Plexos modeling capabilities through data interfaces.
- Create data endpoints for upstream data collection via web APIs.
- Support data queries within Snowflake for downstream modeling, including future ML capabilities with Snowpark.
- Collaborate with IT and Solution Architects to design new data systems.
- Work with model owners to develop and improve models, ensuring best practices.
- Provide ad hoc data support to cross-functional teams.
- Mentor junior team members and support their career development.
About You
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
- Expertise in Python for data engineering, pipelines, ETL, and data models.
- Experience managing databases (Snowflake preferred), including permissions and design.
- Familiarity with GitHub and agile project management.
- Knowledge of Power BI or similar visualization tools.
- Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, responsible.
- High-level understanding of energy markets is advantageous.
- Experience with optimization software like PLEXOS, Aurora, BID3 is a plus.
