Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Cost Accountant to join our construction finance team. This role is responsible for managing and analyzing job cost data, preparing financial reports, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring cost accounting practices align with company policies and GAAP. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction project accounting and the ability to partner cross-functionally with project managers and operations teams.


Key Responsibilities:

Manage all aspects of cost accounting for construction projects, including job costing, variance analysis, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting.

Collaborate with project managers to review budgets, monitor job costs, and provide financial insights to support decision-making.

Analyze labor, materials, subcontractor, and overhead costs to identify trends and areas for cost improvement.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to project performance and profitability.

Maintain and reconcile job cost ledgers, general ledger accounts, and financial statements.

Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and GAAP standards.

Support the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, including project-level forecasting.

Assist in the implementation and enhancement of cost accounting systems and reporting tools.

Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and provide insights to senior management.

Mentor junior accounting staff and support process improvement initiatives.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.

5+ years of cost accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a construction or project-based environment.

Strong knowledge of construction job costing, WIP schedules, and project accounting best practices.

Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, Procore, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.


Preferred Experience:

Familiarity with percentage-of-completion accounting.

Experience working with general contractors, subcontractors, or engineering firms.

ERP or construction-specific software implementation experience.
