ARS is seeking an experienced Senior Communication/Navigation Engineer to provide technical expertise in avionics systems development, testing, and sustainment. The ideal candidate will evaluate and ensure compliance with technical requirements for navigation systems, voice communication systems, data link systems, and air data systems. This role requires deep knowledge of military and civilian communication networks, network protocols, and information security, combined with the ability to assess technical documentation for specification compliance and airworthiness. Responsibilities include: Apply DoD, Air Force, and industry engineering principles to improve performance of weapon systems
Assist with technical requirements compliance for avionics development, testing, sustainment, and operations
Evaluate navigation systems, voice communication systems, Line of Sight (LOS) and Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) data link systems
Assess military and civilian communication networks, network protocols, and Information Protection Security (IPSec)
Review Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)/Extensible Markup Language (XML) packaging of network commands and air data systems
Evaluate technical documents to determine compliance with specifications and airworthiness requirements
Summarize findings, recommend changes, and communicate results to program office leadership
Translate user requirements into weapon system requirements for design, development, and testing
Perform technical analyses of operational requirements and develop system concepts
Conduct trade-off assessments of proposed designs and modifications
Provide rapid response engineering support for critical supportability problems
Develop technical documentation including evaluations, studies, reports, and acquisition strategies
Support technical reviews including System Requirements Reviews, Design Reviews, and Test Readiness Reviews
Evaluate engineering change proposals, modification proposals, and related documents
Assist with implementing Life Cycle Systems Engineering (LCSE) processes
Support Operational, Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) compliance
Participate in value stream mapping and process improvement activities
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements: Must be a US citizen
Advanced Degree (MA/MS) with 12+ years of experience in communications/navigation engineering, including 5+ years in DoD; OR Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) with 15+ years of experience in communications/navigation engineering, including 5+ years in DoD
Expertise in avionics systems, particularly navigation and communication systems
Knowledge of military and civilian communication networks and protocols
Experience with information security and data link systems
Familiarity with airworthiness certification processes
Desired Certifications: DAWIA Level III certification in Engineering or Systems Engineering
Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) from INCOSE
IEEE Certified Software Development Professional
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
CompTIA Security+ certification
Airworthiness Certification Training
DO-178C/DO-254 Training certifications
