Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist

The Cardiothoracic unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital performs 700 adult cardiac surgical cases per annum. The case mix includes myocardial revascularization, valve replacement procedures, complex thoracic aortic surgery, mini mitral valve repair, minimally invasive coronary and valve surgery, and off-pump coronary surgery.
The Department of Clinical Perfusion supports the Cardiology Angiography Suite and collaborates with Cardiologists and Intensivists on an emerging MCS program for Cardiogenic Shock.
The department seeks to recruit a Senior Clinical Perfusionist, increasing the team to 9 qualified perfusionists and 2 trainees.
The Clinical Perfusion team supports MSc trainees, and mentoring and pastoral support are key aspects of this role.
This full-time, permanent position is based on a 4-day work week, with flexible and part-time options available. Participation in an on-call rota (currently 1:6 with a 4.5% uplift) is required, with additional calls paid hourly. Please inquire for details.

Main duties of the job
Key Dimensions
- Provide highly specialist, autonomous care delivery.
- Develop and deliver training on perfusion science, devices, and techniques.
- Offer expert advice on care and technical aspects of treatment.
- Participate in out-of-hours care on a rota basis.
- Assist in procurement, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Manage daily duties in the absence of the Clinical Perfusion Manager or Deputy.

Job responsibilities
Must be accredited by the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland, with at least two years post-accreditation experience.
Possess postgraduate knowledge of routine and specialized techniques, such as intra-aortic balloon pumps.
Maintain ongoing professional development for re-accreditation and registration.
Deliver training to colleagues as appropriate.
Exhibit advanced computer skills and familiarity with health and safety guidelines related to devices, drugs, and solutions.
Experience in policy development and incident reporting.
Ability to network and work credibly within and outside the department.
