Senior Chief Cardiac Physiologist - Echo

We are looking to appoint an experienced and passionate echocardiographer to support the service leads. The role will be 100% based in echocardiography and will involve practical scanning of both inpatients and outpatients, supporting trainee echocardiographers, and conducting quality assurance activities including audits and service evaluations across all trust sites.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will engage in all areas of echocardiography and support the service lead to ensure compliance with departmental accreditation and quality assurance programs, adhering to the echo quality framework.

Job responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated echocardiographer passionate about the field. Our expanding department seeks to extend its training capabilities. The post-holder will perform all aspects of transthoracic echocardiography, able to independently scan and produce comprehensive reports following the British Society of Echocardiography guidelines. Mentoring trainees and acting as a role model for high standards in echocardiography practice is essential.

Each trainee will have a supervisor responsible for supporting their training, including signing off logbooks and DOPS. Echo slots are a minimum of 45 minutes, with 60-minute slots for newly accredited echocardiographers. There are monthly teaching sessions and weekly drop-in discussions on interesting or discordant scans.

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent training

Experience
  • Completed training program/experience
  • Working towards AHCS / HCPC accreditation
Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies
  • Competent in recording and interpreting transthoracic echo
  • Competent in assisting with transoesophageal echo
Mental Effort
  • Able to concentrate on complex tasks for extended periods
  • Able to make independent decisions
