The Senior Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities within the defense sector, focusing on machined components. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep industry experience, strong relationships within DoD and major defense contractors (e.g., Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics), and a proven track record in sales and account growth.

Our client is a PE-backed leading manufacturer of precision-machined components, and quality steelmaking tools, serving a wide range of industries with a core focus on aerospace and defense. Their mission is to deliver high-quality, mission-critical components that meet the rigorous demands of our clients in the Department of Defense (DoD) and Tier 1 defense contractors.

Description

  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to grow market share in the defense sector.

  • Identify and qualify new opportunities through market research, networking, and relationship building.

  • Manage the end-to-end business development process, from prospecting through proposal and contract negotiations.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders at DoD, OEMs, and Tier 1 defense contractors.

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure technical alignment with customer requirements.

  • Represent the company at industry trade shows, conferences, and customer meetings.

  • Stay current with industry trends, government procurement programs, and regulatory changes impacting the defense sector.

  • Meet and exceed sales targets, reporting regularly on pipeline development and forecasts.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field (MBA or technical master's preferred).

  • 10+ years of experience in business development, sales, product management within the defense and aerospace industry.

  • Deep knowledge of machined components and an understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerances, and quality standards.

  • Established relationships with DoD procurement officials and/or defense primes.

  • Strong knowledge of FAR/DFARS, ITAR, and other defense contracting regulations.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Willingness to travel domestically as needed (up to 30-50%).

  • Experience working with CNC/machining companies or a strong understanding of subtractive manufacturing.

  • Previous involvement in long-cycle defense procurement and government contracting.
