JOB SUMMARY We're seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to drive technical excellence across our engineering team. In this role, you will:
- Architect and develop scalable and secure web applications, ensuring code quality and best practices across backend systems.
- Development of service-service integrations - both with other Clarvos teams, and 3rd parties (e.g. Stripe, Auth0 etc.).
- Lead backend development through complex technical challenges, providing mentorship and guidance while maintaining high standards of engineering excellence.
- Design and implement database schema and APIs to support business requirements and system scalability.
- Collaborate with product, design, data engineering, data science and MLOps teams to deliver innovative solutions while making key technical decisions that shape our platform's future.
- Work closely with other frontend and full stack engineers on the team.
- Ensure the team has the cloud infrastructure and tooling needed to support development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Design and implement scalable APIs (RESTful, GRPC, GQL, etc.) using Java.
- Lead development of new services/endpoints and maintain existing codebase.
- Implement automated testing and deployment strategies.
- Optimize application performance and resolve technical debt.
- Review code and provide technical mentorship/leadership to other engineers.
- Collaborate with product and design teams to define technical requirements.
- Establish coding standards and development best practices.
- Document technical specifications and system architecture.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES. AND QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in backend development (experience with Java is a plus).
- Superb experience building and maintaining scalable web applications and APIs.
- Strong system design and architecture skills.
- Excellent debugging and troubleshooting abilities.
- Expertise with automated testing.
- Ability to thrive in a highly dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Experience in GCP, CI/CD, and Terraform preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:Standing/Walking/Mobility:Must have mobility to attend meetings remotely and in person.
