We are looking for a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Automation Engineer with expertise in automating molecular biology workflows. This role involves requirements gathering, process characterization, and workflow optimization in a life science or biotechnology setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather and translate requirements for molecular biology workflow automation.
- Optimize and characterize processes to improve efficiency and performance.
- Develop and implement automation solutions using platforms such as Beckman i-Series, Echo acoustic liquid handlers, Tecan Fluent, and Hamilton Microlab systems.
- Work with integrated assay workstations that include cobots, thermal storage devices, thermal cyclers, and scheduling software.
- Apply advanced programming skills to enable interleaving processes and runtime decision-making.
- Utilize project management tools to create workflow diagrams, Gantt charts, risk registers, test plans, and other project artifacts.
- Employ Design of Experiments (DoE) and Quality by Design (QbD) principles for process development.
- Leverage statistical tools like JMP for process optimization.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent hands-on experience in automating molecular biology workflows.
- Extensive experience with automation platforms (e.g., Beckman i-Series, Tecan Fluent, Hamilton Microlab).
- Proficiency in programming and automation software for complex workflows.
- Strong knowledge of process optimization best practices (DoE, QbD, PAT).
- Demonstrated technical project management skills.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis tools for process improvement (e.g., JMP).
- Ability to adapt quickly and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
