Senior Automation Engineer
Location: Northfield, Ohio
Salary: $90,000 - $135,000 (DOE)
Overview:
Innovate are seeking a talented Senior Automation Engineer to join our clients cutting-edge manufacturing group. You'll collaborate across Software, IT, AI Development, and Automation teams to design and implement PLC-based control systems for advanced manufacturing cells.
The successful Senior Automation Engineer will bring at least 5+ years (ideally 10+ years) experience in leading complex automation projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated automation solutions
- Design and plan control logic architecture
- Develop and implement PLC code for custom automated manufacturing systems
- Interface with and configure controls hardware, including sensors, remote I/O, servos, safety systems, machine vision, barcode readers, and HMIs
- Utilize industrial networking protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet TCP/IP)
- Support system commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in automation, electrical, mechanical, computer, or software engineering (or equivalent)
- Proficiency with Rockwell Automation PLC ecosystems
- Skilled in Structured Text, Function Block, and Sequential Function Charts
- Hands-on experience with a wide range of automation hardware and interfaces
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet TCP/IP)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- Robotics systems experience
- Experience with a secondary PLC ecosystem (e.g., Productivity Suite / Automation Direct)
- Knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles
- Experience using git-based version control systems
